Test Design Engineer
Glasgow

It is an exciting time for our UK Engineering team! We are looking for both software and hardware focused design engineers who have experience in teaming with projects and programmes to deliver test solutions. This can range from a simple test box through to complex fully automated solutions and will require involvement throughout the lifecycle of the solution from concept to completion. This includes working across a wide range of business units on a variety of products and design phases.

Thales has a renewed focus on developing its capability and involvement in our flagship development projects. You will have an increased opportunity to influence product design requirements, develop equipment for both product verification and manufacturing phases, and introduce new technologies and ways of working.

Each successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of Test Solutions Engineering in the defence and/or transportation and/or aerospace domain and will ideally have experience interfacing with external customers as well as internal stakeholders.

The role holder will report to the Test Solutions UK Manager. The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in some or all of the following key areas:

  • Specifying, designing and proving software solutions to meet project operational requirements.
  • Experience in the design and verification of LabView code, candidates have at least 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in Test Design and LabVIEW Core 1, 2 and CLD as a minimum
  • Experience of specifying and constructing test sequences using
  • Experience in design of C/C++ software
  • Strong demonstrable experience of electronic/electrical design
  • Electronics circuit design experience
  • Cabling and interconnect design
Plus
  • Ability to work to budget and timescale
  • Preparation of test system procurement specifications
  • Testing at circuit board and system level
  • General understanding of design lifecycle
Desired qualifications and experience
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an electronics or software engineering discipline or closely related technical field.
  • Membership or fellowship of a professional engineering body preferably with or working towards chartered status.

The Work Environment

At Thales, we believe in flexible SMART working and have the expectation this role will be delivered through a combination of remote and office based collaborative working. When working in the office, you will be based at the largest Thales site in the UK, featuring access to a wide variety of resources including manufacturing, environmental and electromagnetic test facilities and specialised laboratories.
