Full-time, 5 days per week (3 days in-office & 2 days remote)

24,000 pro rata

About the Organisation:



African Women's Care is a registered charity dedicated to supporting Black and minoritised women and children affected by domestic violence, harmful practices, and socio-economic marginalisation. Our work is rooted in cultural understanding, empowerment, and advocacy.

We are now expanding our services to include a Therapeutic and Recovery Programme, a vital step-down service designed to help women rebuild their lives following crisis intervention.v

About the Role:



We are seeking a motivated and empathetic Therapeutic and Recovery Worker to lead the delivery of this new support programme. The role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting women in their long-term recovery from domestic violence and trauma.

You will provide both one-to-one and group therapeutic support sessions, helping women to develop emotional resilience, improve their wellbeing, and regain a sense of control and purpose in their lives.

This programme will support survivors beyond the initial crisis offering a structured pathway to healing, confidence-building, and practical life skills.

Key Responsibilities:



Deliver 12 session of one-to-one therapeutic and motivational support per client, Facilitate weekly peer-led group sessions using interactive and therapeutic approaches (e.g. talking therapy, creative expression, peer-sharing, skill-building), Support survivors in setting and achieving personal goals, rebuilding self-worth, and developing problem-solving strategies, Help clients understand the emotional, social, and economic impacts of abuse, Encourage positive physical and mental wellbeing practices for both women and their families, Liaise with peer educators and volunteers to co-deliver sessions informed by lived experience, Identify and refer clients to other relevant services including parenting support, debt advice, benefits access, and social inclusion opportunities, Monitor and track individual progress using appropriate assessment tools and reflective practice, Maintain accurate and confidential records, contributing to evaluations and outcome reporting, Create a warm, safe, and non-judgemental environment where women feel heard, valued, and supported.

This programme aims to help participants achieve:

Reduced isolation and increased social connection, A stronger sense of emotional and physical wellbeing, Greater confidence and self-esteem, Feeling heard, understood, and respected, Improved parenting and family relationships, Better access to financial stability and community resources, A renewed sense of agency and hope for the future.

Person Specification:



Essential:



2 years experience in therapeutic, recovery-based or mental health support (formal counselling training not essential but desirable), Knowledge of domestic violence and its long-term impacts on women and families, Experience working with vulnerable women, preferably from BAME communities, Strong facilitation skills for both individuals and group sessions, Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills, Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.

Desirable:



Lived experience of domestic abuse (personal or through close connection), Experience working with peer-led models or mentoring, Awareness of systematic barriers facing Black and minoritised women in accessing support services.

All staff receive full induction training, regular supervision, and ongoing professional development, including wellbeing support to manage the emotional demands of the role.

Some travel across West London is required for outreach, meetings, and client support.

Occupational Requirement:



The post is restricted to women under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, due to the need to provide sensitive support to survivors of gender-based violence.
