Main duties of the job

The Therapeutic Practice Lead - Complex Mental Health & Trauma is a senior specialist role responsible for overseeing the care of clients with complex mental health needs, emotional dysregulation, and personality disorder. Working within a trauma-informed, person-centred framework, the postholder ensures that clinical care plans often developed under the oversight of the Court of Protection are implemented safely and in line with legal and best practice standards.

They will liaise with external professionals, provide clinical supervision to staff, support the appropriate use of physical intervention, lead debriefs, and contribute to safeguarding processes. A key part of the role involves developing and delivering training aligned with current best practice in areas such as PBS, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care.

We are therefore seeking someone with a strong understanding of mental health legislation and a genuine passion for teaching and practice development.

Key Responsibilities



Clinical Oversight



Oversee a small caseload (approx. 5 clients) with complex mental health needs, emotional dysregulation and/or personality disorder diagnoses. Ensure implementation of clinical care plans developed by external MDTs and approved by the Court of Protection. Monitor compliance with legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and associated case law and guidance. Support staff to deliver therapeutic and legally appropriate care, including in high-risk or restrictive environments.

Legal and Safeguarding Responsibilities



Liaise with legal teams, advocates, and the Court of Protection as needed. Attend case conferences and hearings where required and contribute to formal court reporting. Work closely with the Safeguarding Lead (Registered Manager) on safeguarding concerns, risk management and incident follow-up.

Clinical Practice and Team Support



Deliver clinical supervision to identified staff, including structured reflection and practice development. Support and lead debriefs following incidents, especially involving restraint or emotional distress. Contribute to a culture of compassionate, trauma-informed, and person-centred care. Offer on-the-ground clinical support to staff teams managing emotionally complex and high-risk behaviours.

Training and Development



Design and deliver internal and external training sessions on: Physical intervention and restraint Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Safeguarding and trauma-informed care Provide mentorship and coaching to staff in implementing evidence-based practices. Quality-assure the use of physical interventions and ensure restraint care plans are followed.

Professional Representation



Represent Innovations in Care Ltd at external MDT meetings, safeguarding panels, and strategy discussions. Build positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders including NHS teams, AMHPs, solicitors, family members, and specialist clinicians.
Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent pre-registration qualification. Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD). Training or Teaching Qualification - PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education & Training, or higher. NMC Approved Mentorship/Clinical Supervision Qualification.
Desirable

Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma or MSc in a relevant area. PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education & Training, or higher BILD/RRN Approved Instructor Status (though training can be provided)
Experience Essential

Extensive post-qualification experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, including working with individuals with: Complex and co-occurring mental health diagnoses, Emotional dysregulation and/or personality disorders. Experience supporting patients subject to legal frameworks, including: Court of Protection involvement, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act applications. Experience in a senior or autonomous clinical role. Writing and overseeing the implementation of care plans or risk assessments. Strong multi-agency working. Experience with physical intervention and restraint, including: Practical experience in secure, forensic, or high-risk community settings and ensuring compliance with restraint care plans and legal frameworks. Training delivery and clinical supervision experience.
Desirable

Experience in secure, forensic, or inpatient mental health services. Particularly where clients present with high-risk behaviour or are subject to legal oversight Experience developing or delivering training packages aligned with BILD/RRN standards, PBS frameworks, or NICE guidelines Experience contributing to service development, quality assurance, or clinical governance processes Experience mentoring or coaching staff teams in complex or community settings
Knowledge & Skills Essential

Assessment and care planning skills. Able to develop, interpret, implement, and evaluate complex care plans from multi-disciplinary teams. Therapeutic relationship building. Skilled in engaging people with a history of trauma or services involvement in a compassionate and non-judgemental way. Advocacy and person-centred planning. Able to ensure client voice and rights are central in care planning, even in highly restricted environments. Basic IT Skills Full UK Driving License

Pay: 35,000.00-45,000.00 per year
