To design and deliver creative, sensory-based and therapeutic education sessions for children and young people with
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
, particularly those who are
non-verbal and on the autism spectrum
. The role aims to support emotional regulation, communication, and engagement through drama, play, art, and sensory experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver
1:1 or 2:1 therapeutic sessions
tailored to each student's EHCP targets and emotional needs.
Use
creative and sensory approaches
(e.g., movement, music, art, storytelling) to encourage communication and self-expression.
Build
trusting relationships
with students who may experience anxiety, communication difficulties, or challenging behaviours.
Support the development of
emotional regulation
using approaches such as
Zones of Regulation
or sensory strategies.
Complete daily observations, risk assessments, and weekly plans in line with SunDrama procedures.
Liaise effectively with parents, schools, and local authorities to ensure continuity and progress.
Maintain clear records of attendance, session notes, and safeguarding concerns.

Person Specification:
Essential:
Proven experience working with
non-verbal or minimally verbal children
with autism or complex SEND.
Understanding of
therapeutic and sensory-based education
approaches.
Strong communication and empathy skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt creatively to each child's needs.
Enhanced
DBS certificate
(or willingness to obtain).
Desirable:
Training in creative therapies, drama therapy, play therapy, or SEN teaching.
Knowledge of visual communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
