POSITION: Therapeutic Practitioner (Bank)

RESPONSIBLE TO: REGISTERED MANAGER

PURPOSE OF JOB: To create a nurturing and supportive environment for young people in supported accommodation, fostering their well-being and personal development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To act as a positive role model for the Young People within Orchard Therapeutic Care Ltd., offering care and support based on structure, consistency and nurturing as part of day-to-day living.

2. To ensure the safety of each Young Person at all times.

3. To be intuitive to Young People's needs; be it physical or emotional.

4. To be alert to any indication of stress or abuse; and monitoring, recording and reporting accordingly.

5. To encourage, advise and promote good personal hygiene for all Young People.

6. To care for and provide for our Young People's daily needs, i.e. washing, cooking, ironing, shopping and bathing (if appropriate).

7. To offer support and advice with monitoring and budgeting pocket money.

8. To supervise and engage in a wide range of activities with Young People, escorting to and from given activities by either car or public transport.

9. To be a united member of our staff team, responsive and responsible when on duty, offering support to fellow members of the team.

10. To be aware of the norms of adolescent behaviour as a framework for viewing, assessing and responding to behaviour in a residential setting.

11. To communicate with the Parents of Young People, and professional individuals such as Teachers, Therapists and Social Workers.

12. To welcome, supervise and encourage family contact when are where appropriate.

13. To be able to listen to, guide and advise Young People sensitively, offering comfort at times of stress or sadness, and sharing their joy when right to do so.

14. To be aware of Child Protection issues, guidelines and procedures. 15. To carry out any administrative duties and record information with accuracy: a. Daily logs and communication on ClearCare - electronic recording system. b. Link to education provider on a daily basis (if applicable). c. To produce monthly Residential Placement Plans (Key Workers) on ClearCare. d. To record any Significant Incident Reports, Physical Intervention Reports and record any sanctions as and when applicable, on ClearCare. e. To produce Child Care Review Reports (CCR) when applicable (Key Workers) on ClearCare.

16. To offer and receive handovers at shift change; being detailed and concise regarding information relevant to the shift or Young People.

17. To respect the boundaries and procedures stated for Orchard Therapeutic Care Ltd.

18. To attend group meetings, promoting open communication for Young People, both verbal and non-verbal, encouraging self-awareness and emotional growth.

19. To attend staff meetings and 'in-house' training days.

20. To be available and receptive to a process of formal supervision.

21. To be able to manage shift work, including overnight sleep-ins, of which there will be on average 2 each week.

22. Plus, any other duties which are found to be appropriate/needed within the lives of Young People in our care and at times be involved in the provision of an after-care service.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Therapeutic Practitioner will be responsible to the Registered Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Therapeutic Practitioner Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 Young People Willingness to participate in relevant training opportunities Desirable

Experience/Skills:

Knowledge/experience of working with children or young people.

Experience of Residential work. Knowledge of child development. Awareness of current childcare legislation.

Awareness of the existence and effects of social disadvantage and discrimination. Ability to manage personal/professional boundaries.

Ability to engage in a variety of activities to develop and sustain appropriate relationships with young people.

Personal Authority. Ability to work as part of a team.

Ability and preparedness to recognise and deal appropriately with conflict, and to receive and give constructive feedback. Ability to work under pressure and to cope with stress.

Able to work with a degree of autonomy within an awareness of overall boundaries and structure of role and organisation.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to understand and work effectively with complex cases.

Ability to assume responsibility for the operation of the home(s) when acting as shift leader (after probation*).

To be IT proficient; good knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Personal Circumstances Prepared to be flexible and available to work unsocial hours, including public holidays, and attend residential holidays with the young people. Adaptable, confident, resilient, self-aware, positive.

Good health record that demonstrates the individual is physically able to fulfil the demands of the job description.

Hold a current driving license and is prepared to drive as part of the job.
