We are seeking a compassionate and skilled self-employed
Therapeutic Tutor
to deliver high-quality, trauma-informed teaching and learning to young people aged 11-16 accessing Serenity Pathways. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting learners with
SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
,
SEND
, or those at risk of exclusion. This role involves creating personalised, therapeutic learning experiences that promote academic progress, emotional well-being, and personal development within a nurturing, nature-connected environment.
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver
engaging, trauma-informed lessons
tailored to the individual needs of learners.
Provide
1:1 and small group sessions
, adapting teaching styles to support different learning needs and abilities.
Assess and monitor progress
, maintaining detailed learner records and contributing to individual support plans.
Foster a
safe, inclusive, and compassionate learning environment
that encourages participation, resilience, and self-belief.
Build
trusting relationships
with learners, using therapeutic and restorative approaches to support behaviour and engagement.
Collaborate with colleagues, families, and external professionals to ensure a
consistent, joined-up approach
to learner development.
Uphold
safeguarding, equality, and health & safety policies
, contributing to a culture of safety and wellbeing.
Take part in supervision, reflective practice, and CPD to continuously enhance teaching quality and therapeutic practice.
Skills & Attributes
Proven experience in teaching or tutoring young people, ideally within
alternative provision, SEMH, or SEND
settings.
Understanding of
trauma-informed and therapeutic education
principles.
Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills
, with the ability to build positive relationships with learners and families.
Strong
behaviour management
using calm, restorative, and empathetic approaches.
Organised, reflective, and able to maintain accurate learner records and progress reports.
Commitment to
safeguarding, inclusion, and equality of opportunity
.
A nurturing, patient, and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to individual learner needs.
Essential
Experience in supporting/teaching young people in a learning environment.
At least 1 years teaching experience
Level 3 Education and Training
A willing to work on a self-employed basis
Safeguarding experience/training
Desirable Experience
Mental Health First Aid training or equivalent.
Lived or professional experience supporting individuals with
trauma, neurodiversity, or behavioural needs
.
Qualifications or experience in
youth work, counselling, learning support, or mentoring
.
Familiarity with
ASDAN, Arts Award, or Functional Skills
programmes.
