Role Summary
Originally founded in 1823, Seashell Trust is a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential care homes, outreach, health and family services all based on one campus site. We provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment, communication disorders and autism.

The successful applicant will work within our highly skilled and knowledgeable Occupational Therapy (OT) team within our CQC registered Health department. OT is an integral part of the onsite clinical Health Team at Seashell.
We are seeking a Therapy Assistant who is passionate about supporting our children and your people to achieve positive outcomes and are recruiting this position on a term time only basis (working 39 weeks per year).
Key responsibilities:
Work with the wider Occupational Therapy team to help deliver therapy programmes and maintain up to date and accurate clinical records for our children and young adults
Support the development and delivery of both group and individual interventions to engage students in therapeutic activities
Support the Occupational Therapists with resource development
Maintain and inspect equipment used by students (e.g. gym equipment, adapted bikes, mobility aids) to ensure that it is a condition that is safe and suitable for its intended use
Moving equipment and materials for OT related activities which will require moderate physical effort
Assisting students with self-care activities such as dressing, eating and personal care
About you...
GCSE English and Maths (grade 4/C) or level 2 equivalent qualification is a requirement for this position
Experience of working with children or young people with a range of complex needs and/ or autism
Experience of working alongside a relevant allied health professional with children and/or young people with complex learning and physical disabilities to deliver therapeutic programmes - preferably in an education, health or OT environment
Experience of manual handling activities or evidence of ability to participate in manual handling activities
Competent IT skills with evidence to support this
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
In addition, you will regularly be required to assist with moving and handling service users who have a range of physical disabilities in a variety of settings including classrooms, residential units, swimming pool, work placements and some restricted places. You must therefore be able to undertake tasks involving physically active sessions and be able to support service users with behaviours of distress.
