Job Description

This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive and diligent person who is able to work independently and as part of a team to carry out the necessary tasks in a timely manner on our organic apple orchards.

We supply high quality eating apples to the multiples growing a range of modern, disease resistant varieties on modern intensive planting systems. Attention to detail and timeliness is key throughout the season to maximise the yield of class 1 fruit. As such you will be required to;

Perform a diverse range of tractor based activities such as spraying, mowing, cultivating (for weed control), compost spreading and mechanical pruning. Achieve PA3 spraying certificate and be responsible for keeping up CPD points as required for NRoSO. Assist with the harvest operation which will involve supervising picking teams, keeping an eye on harvest quality and speed, bringing full bins in from the orchard / taking empty bins out, labelling them, loading/unloading lorries. Assist with supervising and monitoring the husbandry operations, getting involved as and when necessary. Play an active part in site and machine maintenance throughout the season to ensure high standards are maintained. Prune the apple trees in winter to ensure this very important job is done as required by our agronomists to achieve the required fruit size, colour and quality. Record-keeping of operations on Crop-Ware (computer database) and assisting with Red Tractor farm assurance and Soil Association organic compliance.
An understanding and flexible attitude towards the unpredictable hours and nature of the work is necessary so some practical farming experience and aptitude for machinery is essential. People management and forklift experience also preferable.

We have 3 sites that are 16 miles apart so a driving license and a car is essential.
