We are situated in the heart of the Peak District, and looking to welcome a Second Chef to our kitchen team creating an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further their career in a well equipped, fun but professional kitchen and move up the ranks. We take pride in providing excellent all round Traditional Pub service with a mixture of fresh, seasonal Specials with a strong focus on sustainability and local / home grown produce from our kitchen garden / no dig allotment and Traditonal Pub Fayre, Due to the busyness of the business we also have to use the usual convience products alongside homegrown and fresh.
About the Role:
As Second Chef at The George, you'll work alongside The Owner and a supportive team to deliver a varied traditional pub menu that celebrates the best of wherever possible homegrown ingredients but also using convience products. You'll be responsible for both preparation and service and may occasionally be required to work independently during quieter shifts.
We operate a tourist driven menu but encourage flair & passion when creating for our specials boards.
This role offers a chance to grow and develop in a dynamic kitchen environment. As second chef, there may also be the opportunity to work your way up the career ladder in house, if we find the right candidate. We are open to applications from experienced chefs looking for a new challenge, as well as those at an earlier stage of their career who are eager to make their mark.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparing and cooking dishes to a high Traditional pub fayre menu standard
Contributing to the development of menu & Specials board ideas, particularly using produce from our kitchen garden & allotment when available
Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards in line with regulations
Assisting with the cleaning rota to ensure the kitchen remains well-organized
Following directions from the Owner and the management team
Occasionally working in our fast paced Pizza Truck, a unique part of our food offering
What We're Looking For:
We're seeking a Chef who is:
Reliable, organized, and adaptable
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Ability to use initutive for specials and interested in sustainability
Willing to learn and contribute to the development of our younger kitchen members
Able to commute to Castleton (own transport is advantageous.)

A potwasher is on shift all day everyday to ensure that the chefs are free to concentrate on the cooking side of things & We also run the Navitas Food System freeing up time for chefs to prepare the food and specials. (explained below)
Navitas Food Safety System:
Our kitchen uses the digital food safety system to streamline compliance and improve efficiency. The system includes automated fridge temperature monitoring, WiFi probe, digital checklists, and allergen management tools, helping chefs stay focused on the cooking side while ensuring the highest food safety standards are met. It's a modern, stress-free solution to keep our kitchen safe, clean, and inspection-ready, while removing the paperwork side to a digital format.

Beehives producing our own honey (fingers crossed)
Homemade chutneys, jams, and gins from the produce grown
