An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Traffic Systems Engineer to join a dedicated team working on behalf of a key client responsible for managing and enhancing the strategic road network. In this role, you will provide expert technical input into the identification and evaluation of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) asset needs and develop early-stage solutions. You will also ensure alignment with established asset policies and engineering standards.
This position is based in Nottingham with a hybrid working model combining office-based and remote working.
Please note: A valid UK driving licence with no more than 3 points is required for this role due to the need for site visits and travel.
Key Responsibilities
Develop early solutions for asset improvements or renewals, including the preparation of technical documentation, option appraisal for value management, and consideration of innovative materials, techniques, buildability, and cost-effectiveness.
Scope and oversee survey activities that inform asset improvement and renewal strategies.
Contribute to the development of a forward programme of work, ensuring it is informed by robust asset-led planning and initial scheme feasibility.
Provide technical assurance and support to project delivery teams, including review of contractor compliance, inspection support, materials approval, and health and safety documentation.
Review third-party designs to ensure they meet design standards and long-term maintenance requirements.
Lead feasibility studies, research projects, and investigations to explore innovative ITS and traffic technology solutions.
About You
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with membership of a relevant professional institution.
Degree or HND in a relevant engineering or technology discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Demonstrable experience in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
Strong working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Familiarity with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and its application in highway infrastructure projects.
