This is an entry-level, telephone-focused role for someone looking to start a career in solar energy and business development. The Trainee Business Development Manager will primarily support the Business Development Manager by conducting outbound calls, gathering key information, speaking with landowners and stakeholders, and helping to qualify new opportunities for solar projects. The role is ideal for someone confident on the phone, organised, and eager to learn the commercial side of the renewable energy sector
Make outbound calls to landowners, agents, and potential partners to introduce solar opportunities.
Gather essential data over the phone and update internal systems with accurate information.
Follow up on inbound enquiries and schedule calls or meetings for the Business Development Manager.
Handle early-stage qualification calls to assess interest, land suitability, or project potential.
Data & Lead Management
Record detailed notes from calls and update CRM and lead spreadsheets.
Pull relevant data (land ownership, planning history, grid proximity, etc.) based on call outcomes.
Help prioritise leads and maintain an organised pipeline of outreach activity.
Assist in preparing follow-up emails, letters, or information packs for prospects.
Support preparation of proposals, presentations, and project update documents.
Project Administration
Organise follow-up tasks such as scheduling meetings, logging opportunities, and updating trackers.
Assist the Business Development Manager in monitoring project progress and capturing key milestones.
Manage digital files and documentation related to land enquiries and project development.
