An exciting opportunity has arisen for a

Trainee Buyer

to join our Construction Team based in Chorley on a full time, permanent basis. Our Trainee Buyer will work with our suppliers and wider business associates.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of categories, aligning with our contracted pricing strategy, ensuring optimal product availability while upholding the required quality standards.

Your primary responsibility is to complete day-to-day purchasing activities promptly and in accordance with both business and client expectations.

The main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Category management of allocated suppliers and providing advice and procurement support to other regions in respect of these categories. Develop and execute a strategic procurement plan, ensuring successful delivery Liaison with Site and Management Teams to determine material/plant requirements. Placement of material and plant purchase orders as required. Maintenance and accurate utilisation of Plant Reports and monthly presentation of Site Plant Commitments to Contract/Project/Site Management. Lead strategic supplier negotiations to reduce costs. Negotiate key commercial data and supplier agreements for specific projects. Identify and proactively address supply and commercial risks during strategy implementation and tender execution. Actively support management and site teams and offer a personal and dedicated approach to procurement solutions. Establish strong and effective external client relationships to understand and meet customer needs. Contribute to the development of key processes within the department.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Prior experience in procurement or sourcing roles. CIPS qualified or working towards certification is beneficial but not a requirement Strategic sourcing expertise, including the development of category and sourcing strategies involving multiple stakeholders Excellent IT skills including the Microsoft suite Excellent communication skills Understanding of commercial purchasing opportunities and contract negotiation and management skills. Possession of a full driving license and willingness to travel. Knowledge of key trends and market Commercially aware Strong negotiation skills with a proven history of cost savings. Knowledge of Yardi preferred but not essential.
