Trainee Ecommerce Developer / Social Media Marketing

Widnes, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Job Overview

DCS is an ever expanding communications company operating multiple e-commerce websites under the DCS group. We supply professional communication and technology products to a wide range of industries across the UK and beyond.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Trainee / Assistant E-Commerce Developer & Social Media Marketing Assistant to join our dynamic team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop hands-on skills in Shopify website management, e-commerce operations, and social media marketing.

The successful candidate will help design, maintain, and optimise our online stores while supporting marketing activities across various platforms. Full training will be provided -- ideal for someone eager to learn and build a career in web, digital, or marketing roles.

Responsibilities

E-Commerce & Website Management

Create, update, and maintain product listings across all DCS websites. Upload orders into our internal system (OrderWise) and update customers on lead times or alternative options. Assist with price checks, product data accuracy, and returns. Run and manage Shopify inboxes and customer messages. Work with partners and internal teams to improve website layout, content, and performance. Add ALT tags and check listings for issues in Google Merchant Centre. Support SEO tasks, such as link-building, ALT text updates, and basic keyword optimisation.

Technical / Development Support

While advanced coding is not required, an understanding or interest in the following areas would be beneficial:

Managing and customising Shopify themes using HTML, CSS, or basic Liquid. Creating and maintaining user-friendly web pages and layouts. Assisting with integrations between Shopify, OrderWise, and third-party tools. Understanding of web performance, responsive design, and accessibility.
(Full training provided; suitable for someone eager to learn rather than an experienced developer.)

Customer Service

Track and manage customer orders through the website and internal systems. Work with the service team to confirm stock availability and delivery times. Contact customers with updates or alternative product suggestions. Provide friendly after-sales support and follow-up communications.

Social Media & Marketing

Assist in planning and posting content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms. Support campaigns and promotions for brands under the DCS group. Help generate creative ideas for posts, product highlights, and short-form video content (e.g. TikTok). Monitor engagement and contribute to improving online visibility. Occasionally assist with photography, copywriting, or basic graphic updates.

General Administration & Collaboration

Use Trello (or similar) to log and track ongoing jobs. Communicate with internal teams and suppliers to ensure updates are completed. Support with testing or preparing products for marketing and demonstrations.

Skills & Attributes

Eagerness to learn and develop digital skills. Attention to detail and accuracy in written work. Confident using computers and online systems (Shopify, Google tools, etc.). Good communication skills and a positive attitude. Interest in e-commerce, technology, or marketing. Ability to work as part of a team and manage daily tasks effectively.

What We Offer

Full training and mentoring in e-commerce and digital marketing. Opportunity to work across multiple brands within the DCS group. Career progression into web development, marketing, or account management. A supportive and friendly team environment. Competitive trainee salary with potential to grow as skills develop.
