Paid placement opportunity for 38 hours a week for 12 weeks
To be eligible for the placement, the successful candidate must be unemployed and living in Anglesey.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
Assist in the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of small vehicles, plant, and equipment.
Carry out routine maintenance tasks under supervision, ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.
Support senior mechanics/fitters with fault diagnosis and repair work.
Learn to use workshop tools, lifting equipment, and diagnostic instruments safely and effectively.
Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records.
Workshop Operations
Assist in the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
Help to manage stock levels of consumables, parts, and workshop materials.
Ensure the workshop is kept clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Participate in the preparation and delivery of equipment and vehicles for inspection, hire, or operational use.
Support in the safe disposal of waste materials and adherence to environmental standards.
Training and Development
Take part in on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified mechanics and fitters.
Attend relevant courses or qualifications (e.g., NVQ, apprenticeship, or manufacturer-specific training).
Develop a thorough understanding of workshop safety procedures, equipment operation, and maintenance best practices.
Skills and Attributes
A strong interest in mechanical, electrical, or plant engineering.
Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
Reliable, punctual, and keen to learn.
Ability to work both independently (under guidance) and as part of a team.
Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Awareness of health, safety, and environmental practices.
Qualifications and Experience
GCSEs or equivalent in English, Maths, and Science (desirable).
Previous experience in a workshop, garage, or engineering environment (beneficial but not essential).
Full UK driving licence or working towards obtaining one (preferred).
