The Mistras Group design, manufacture and install Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for critical infrastructures globally. The SHM Systems are designed to monitor the integrity of various structures, such asbridges, wind turbines, oil rigs and other Oil and Gas structures to identify damage mechanisms and behaviours in order to look out for early warning of potential damage caused by the environments they operate in.


The role of Trainee Online Monitoring (OLM) and Equipment Technician is to ensure proper operation of all OLM Systems and conduct the servicing of monitoring equipment. This includes checking of day-to-day operation and monitoring of long-term performance via remote link from office PC to structure. Logging of system performance in daily log sheets and periodic summary reports which are issued to client depending on the requirements of the given project. In addition to monitoring system performance OLM technicians will also carry out reactive reporting of alarms or system events under the guidance of the OLM Team Leader and using procedures developed and approved by an Acoustic Emissions Level 3. They will also provide remote support for NDT and Service Technicians during site maintenance and calibration visits.


In addition to the OLM duties, the OLM and Equipment Technician is also required to help maintain MISTRAS state-of-the-art capability for structural health monitoring. This includes conducting lab-based calibrations of monitoring equipment, building and assembly of monitoring systems for site deployment, construction and maintenance of customer monitoring systems and supporting and maintaining the equipment inventory, including the checking in and out of equipment.

Responsibilities



OLM Responsibilities

Understand and operate all OLM systems, performing routine daily checks of OLM systems to confirm correct operation. Record system statistics in daily logs to track trends in activity over time. Logging of any system issues/errors or potential developing issues. Monitoring data use/availability on OLM systems and archive accordingly. Recording issues and reporting to OLM Team Leader so that remedial action can initiated. Generating periodic summary reports for OLM systems. Generating reactive reports for OLM systems where applicable following procedures. Continually review OLM processes to unsure they are not outdated. Providing remote support for field test and service engineers during calibration and maintenance visits. Providing remote support for client where site work may impact the system. Communicating effectively as a team with fellow OLM technicians and the OLM Team Leader to ensure smooth running of all monitoring projects.
Equipment Service Responsibilities

Ensure general order/upkeep of the equipment in the Cambridge Operation, including maintaining equipment records. Preparation of monitoring and inspection equipment and manifests to meet operational requirements, including equipment construction. Arrangement of shipments of kit both nationally and internationally around job planning Conduct system and sensor calibration and verification checks for both internal and external customers Readying of products for equipment sales Programming and setup of equipment for deployment Drop identified kit off at client sites and on occasion other MISTRAS sites as required. To track and carry out routine equipment checks in line with legal or procedural requirements. * To maintain and manage all necessary records of goods stored and dispatched within our Asset Management System whilst monitoring stock levels, keeping to an absolute minimum any obsolete stock.
