We are seeking a focused Trainee Operations Engineer, reporting into the Billing Manager and working closely with senior management, the successful candidate will sit in a critical role between cloud, on premises and site level installations, focusing on servicing a diverse hardware portfolio across our network

This is a varied role that combines technical problem-solving with on-site fieldwork in the UK. On site you will work with diverse metering hardware, whilst in the office you will manage and identify faults for subsequent follow up. The role is a critical link between data and physical engineering and offers significant fast paced experience for the right candidate.

Objective/purpose

The role will focus on maintaining and enhancing the metering and billing systems, and you will work through process from the device through to stakeholder data consumption. This role aims to ensure operational continuity, drive technical innovation, and support field-based and internal teams through hands-on problem-solving, system optimisation, and collaborative development of workflows.

Principal roles and responsibilities

Managing the relationship with our external IT provider. Manage and troubleshoot our metering and billing system. Tracking, and ensuring connectivity of meters, investigating and resolving issues with non-communicating meters in collaboration with technical staff and field engineers. Travel to sites to install, repair, and configure metering hardware. Working with software suppliers to create, test and implement fresh solutions. Conducting other tasks and duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

Initiative-taking with a strong sense of ownership. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload. Excellent critical thinking skills. Eagerness to learn and adapt to modern technologies, knowledge of SQL, Python or Spark will be an advantage Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Full training will be provided, with the possibilities of an apprenticeship after the probationary period Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external providers. Clean full Driving licence.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central). Familiarity with router configuration and troubleshooting. Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and understanding of Azure architecture (preferred). Broad IT knowledge across hardware, software, and networking. An interest in website management. Willingness to travel and work on-site as needed.
