Trainee Project Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Project Engineer to join our project delivery team. This is a hands-on role supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of the electrical installation within a secure and highly regulated environment.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will be enrolled on a structured training programme leading to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical Engineering. This provides a clear pathway towards becoming a qualified Project Engineer within our business.

Key Responsibilities



Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager with day-to-day engineering and coordination tasks. Assist with reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work. Help prepare and maintain installation records, test documentation, and red-line drawings. Participate in site inspections and quality checks under supervision. Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to support smooth project delivery. Assist in tracking progress against programme milestones and reporting on site activities. Contribute to document control processes and ensure information is accurately captured and filed. Help monitor site safety practices and attend regular briefings/toolbox talks. Support procurement, materials tracking, and logistics planning as required. Take part in project meetings with the client, including coordination and progress reviews.

Training & Development Pathway

Be enrolled on a HNC in Electrical Engineering. Receive full support from your mentor and the wider MEC team. Gain structured, on-the-job experience aligned with your course modules. Have regular reviews and development planning meetings with your manager. Be supported toward progression into a Project Engineer role and beyond.

Requirements



Essential:



Level 3 or above qualification (e.g., BTEC, NVQ, or A-level) in an engineering or technical subject. Strong interest in construction or electrical engineering. Willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced site environment. Good organisational and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. IT-literate - comfortable using Microsoft Office and digital platforms. Must be eligible for UK security clearance (including SC clearance). Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:



CITB Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS). Prior on-site experience and involvement in a technical project.
