Job Overview:
As a Trainee Site Manager, you will work under the guidance of experienced Site Managers to learn and assist in overseeing construction projects. This role is ideal for individuals looking to develop their career in construction management, gaining hands-on experience in site operations, safety, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
-Assist in Site Supervision: Support the Site Manager in daily operations, ensuring work is carried out safely, on time, and to quality standards.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Help enforce site safety regulations (e.g., PPE, risk assessments, method statements) and report hazards.
- Quality Control: Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with building regulations and company standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain site records, including progress reports, inspections, and material deliveries.
- Subcontractor Coordination: Liaise with tradespeople, suppliers, and engineers under supervision.
- Progress Tracking: Assist in scheduling tasks and tracking project milestones.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and report issues (e.g., delays, defects) to senior staff.
Qualifications & Certification:
- Full driving licence
- DBS
- Comfortable working outside and at heights
- Have Knowledge of Health & Safety awareness
- A construction-related qualification (e.g., Trade or Diploma in Construction Management) is desirable but not always essential.
- Willingness to work towards SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) and CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) cards.
- Experience:
- Some site experience (e.g., as a tradesperson, labourer, or assistant) is beneficial.
- No prior management experience required (training provided).
- Skills:
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Strong attention to detail, well-organised, and efficient in meeting project deadlines.
- Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office, project management software).
- Articulate, numerate and literate
- Health and Safety awareness
- Ability to read construction drawings is a plus.
- Full driving license (may be required for multi-site roles).
Career Progression:
- Successful trainees can advance to Assistant Site Manager and eventually Site Manager roles.
