To provide litigation support to advocates in all Criminal Courts and in respect of Prison Law.
Principle Duties:
The principle duties of the post are:
Assisting in the preparation of criminal matters including applying for legal aid
Seeing witnesses and drafting witness statements
Instructing expert witnesses
Under direction, considering strength and weaknesses of case and of evidence
Communication with clients, CPS and the court
Maintaining computerised diary and ensuring key dates are diarised and acted upon
Time recording
Assisting in the preparation of crown court matters including seeing defendants and taking proof of evidence
Instructing advocates and liaising with in-house counsel or Barristers
Arranging and attending conferences, including visiting clients in prison
Drafting documents such as appeals and bail applications
Attending crown court to support counsel
Other commensurate duties include seeking to become police station accredited and undertaking crown court advocacy in terms of bail applications following suitable training and experience.

Person Specification:
The job requires the person to:
Have completed the Legal Practice Course or equivalent.
Be reliable
Literate with good ability in spoken and written communication
Able to work on their own initiative
Able to communicate well with others
Able to relate to people from a wide spectrum of backgrounds
Computer literate
Thorough and able to work to high levels of accuracy
The post holder is required to hold a full UK licence and have their own transport. All post holders will be subject to enhanced DBS checks and candidates with previous convictions will not be appointed.
