Job Description


We are looking for an experienced and motivated trainer with a background that demonstrates a sound understanding of mental health-related issues and strategies for wellbeing.

The primary training role will be to deliver a 10-week \xe2\x80\x98Access to Volunteering\xe2\x80\x99 course to users of mental health and other community services. Course materials have been written, but the trainer will be encouraged to adapt these, according to need.

The trainer will also deliver training and wellbeing session (e.g. stress reduction techniques, basic relaxation / Mindfulness) to other audiences, industries and contexts and so should have the ability to adapt their presentation to compliment the needs of the audience.

The role will also feature an element of one-to-one mentoring, supporting people who have recently returned to work or who are struggling in work, via a weekly check-in meeting.

The successful applicant will also receive ongoing support and regular supervision from their line manager, the Director of Services, together with day to day support provided by Sheffield Mind colleagues.

The trainer will link with a variety of key stakeholders including:

  • GPs and wider primary care staff
  • Local industry and businesses
  • Clients, family members and carers

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead groups for individuals who have been referred to the Access to Volunteering course.
  • Promote the course to local VCSE organisations and recruit service users to attend the course.
  • Use co-production to co-evaluate training, with a view to future co-delivery and co-design.
  • Deliver existing Sheffield Mind mental health training (training/ workshops/presentations) in an accessible and engaging manner to organisations across Sheffield and potentially, in the surrounding areas.
  • Participate in the delivery of in-house training (for example Induction training) where required.
  • Develop and build upon existing training session themes and resources in response to identified areas of need and demand.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with key personnel at VCSE organisations and local businesses, in order to promote our training offer.
  • Collect required monitoring information from training participants relating to the outcomes and outputs of this project. Ensure appropriate records and monitoring systems are in place to measure service delivery and outcomes and ensure accurate and timely monitoring reports are produced.
  • Manage a training delivery diary to ensure the process for booking, planning and communicating with service users and customers runs smoothly.
  • Liaise with the finance team to ensure invoices are issued for training delivered.
  • Prepare training materials and handouts in sufficient time for these to be printed and prepared for training delivery.
  • Provide regular updates to the Director of Services regarding all activity related to the promotion, preparation and delivery of training. This will include referring to work carried out and work planned for future delivery.
  • Carry a small caseload of mentoring clients, referred by Access to Work, meeting regularly with these individuals to review their work support plan, or offer practical support in order for them to find / stay in work.

  • Actively participate in supervision with the Director of Services.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Work to Sheffield Mind policies and procedures.
  • Actively promote and ensure good equal opportunities practice and work in an anti-oppressive manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Sheffield Mind policies.
  • Support and contribute to the charitable and fundraising work of Sheffield Mind, as appropriate.
  • Carry out such other tasks as are required to meet the aims and objectives of the organisation and contribute to the smooth running of the service.
