Derby College Group (DCG) are looking for a highly motivated Trainer/Assessor to join our dynamic and progressive Animal Care unit at Broomfield Hall. You'll deliver high quality, inspirational teaching which encourages learners to reach their full potential, promoting progression on to higher level courses or preparing them for careers working with animals. The Opportunity




As a Trainer/Assessor, you will be an integral part of the Animal Care Team, responsible for the overall care and health maintenance of the animals, as well as their accommodation. Your role will include delivering practical sessions to students from Entry 3 to Level 3, teaching and assessing the practical aspects of their curriculum. Additionally, you will participate in open days, interviews, and other curriculum-related activities.

About You




You'll have extensive knowledge of industry, particularly in the care of zoo and farm animals within both college and commercial settings. While we have set working hours, the nature of animal care means that the day ends when all duties are completed, not necessarily at the scheduled time. Therefore, flexibility is a must. You should be well-organised, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be committed to effective teamwork. Your primary focus will be ensuring the safety and welfare of the animals and overseeing students working on the unit, always adhering to health and safety procedures. Current knowledge and experience in Animal Care are essential.

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.



Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
