Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Coaching, Mentoring & Assessing
Conduct regular one-to-one sessions with learners to provide technical guidance, mentoring, and formative/summative assessment. Support learners in overcoming barriers and remaining motivated throughout their apprenticeship journey in sports turf, golf greenkeeping, or horticulture.
Technical Teaching & Industry Knowledge
Deliver teaching and training sessions that integrate specialist knowledge of horticulture, turf management, machinery, agronomy, and environmental practices. Ensure learners are exposed to up-to-date industry standards and best practices.
Individual Learner Support
Monitor learner progress, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to support development. Provide tailored advice that reflects both apprenticeship requirements and industry expectations.
Personal Development Planning
Assist learners in creating and following personal development plans aligned with their career pathways in sports turf, golf greenkeeping, or horticulture. Facilitate group workshops to enhance technical understanding and professional behaviours.
Collaboration with Sector Specialists
Work closely with industry specialists and employers to integrate technical expertise into mentoring sessions, ensuring learners are prepared for practical, real-world demands.
Administration & Compliance
Maintain accurate records of learner progress and assessment decisions in line with awarding body and ESFA requirements. Support Coordinators with reporting, documentation, and quality assurance.
Person Specification
Essential
Strong understanding of mentoring, coaching, and assessing best practices.
Occupational competence in sports turf, golf greenkeeping, or horticulture.
Recognised assessor qualification (A1/TAQA/CAVA or equivalent).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience teaching, training, or assessing in vocational or work-based learning.
Commitment to continuous professional development.
Desirable
Teaching qualification (PTLLS, DTLLS, AET, or equivalent).
Experience working directly in the golf greenkeeping, turf management, or horticulture industries.
Familiarity with learning management systems and digital assessment tools.
Ability to collaborate effectively with employers and industry bodies.

Attendance at scheduled workshops/group sessions (target 90%+).

Tripartite reviews completed every 12 weeks (95% timely).
