Job Description

LNER is seeking a Training Assessment Manager to take ownership of staff competency management and training at our Clayhills Depot. This pivotal role ensures our engineering teams possess the skills, qualifications, and confidence required to deliver the highest standards of safety and quality every time.



As an integral member of the Clayhills Depot Management Team, the Training Assessment Manager plays a vital role in driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and professional development. The position demands strong engineering expertise, exceptional coaching ability, and the communication skills to build capability, influence performance, and uphold LNER's values and standards.



What you'll be doing:


Manage and assess staff competencies, ensuring TAQA Level 3 assessments city & guilds/SVQ/NVQ levels 2 & 3 and above are completed and current.

Work with production teams to deliver training and technical development.

Conduct safety and product audits, maintaining compliance with ISO9000 and ISO14000.

Carry out quality inspections, provide technical guidance, and support continuous improvement.

Analyse data, customer feedback, and quality performance to inform action plans.

Liaise with external training providers and other TOCs to align and future-proof skills.

Develop Training Needs Analyses (TNA) and calculate annual training budgets.


What we're looking for:


Strong engineering background with sound electrical and mechanical knowledge and fault-finding ability, within Traction and rolling stock

Minimum of 3 years' experience in engineering, manufacturing, and railway environments.

TAQA qualification (Unit 3 level). Also, internal verifier qualification

Excellent communication and coaching skills method of instruction qualification, with the ability to influence and develop others.

Knowledge of safety regulations, ISO9000, ISO14000, and Microsoft Office applications.

Medical screening
