Role Purpose
We are seeking Training Officer to support the health, safety and environmental function in ensuring effective and efficient delivery of training across the business.
The Successful Candidate will need to have experience in training people in an industrial working environment, an ability to plan their workload effectively, create, develop and deliver bespoke training programmes and work as a key member of a dynamic and fast-paced team.

Principle responsibilities/role tasks
Specific duties as part of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:-
Identifying and assessing training requirements for employees, contractors and the Company as a whole.
Design, develop, implement and deliver training programs and materials, continuing to build on the existing training framework developed by the Company to-date.
Coordinating internal and external training for individuals and groups, delivering internal training sessions, and ensuring effective training delivery.
Maintaining training records and skills matrices in order to identify training requirements and ensure compliance.
Evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and conducting continual assessment of employees and contractors to ensure continuing compliance with company standards and best practise.
Managing the training budget and ensuring resources are allocated effectively.
Staying up-to-date and ensuring training program compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements for training and competency under the UK HSE Mines Regulations 2014 and the Mines Inspectorate guidance for National Occupational Standards and best practice.
Communicating with management, between departments and with team members to ensure compliance, alignment with developed standards and ensure continual improvement.
Overseeing learning and development activities, such as inductions for new employees, contractors and visitors, leadership development, and professional development.
Providing guidance and support to employees and managers regarding training and development.
If not already accredited accordingly, gaining MPQC accreditation as a Trained Trainer and Trained Assessor
As the Company's activity levels expand and operations become the primary focus of the business, further responsibilities will evolve over time.
Location
This is an on-site role, based in an office but involving both surface and underground locations necessary for the duties of the role. The role will involve movement within the site for meetings, training and project related activities.
Working Environment
Cornish Metals Ltd will supply you with all the necessary PPE required to work safely and do all it reasonably can to protect you from risk of injury and ill health, including completion, and maintenance of, risk assessments and implementing systems of work designed to protect your health and safety. Despite this, you will hold a significant amount of personal responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues. As part of your role you will be required to regularly provide training and assessment of personnel in the underground environment.
In the underground environment:
Due to ventilation (both natural and mechanical) the mine workings are often draughty.
You will be walking over muddy, uneven, and loose ground, with steep gradients and climbing ladders whilst wearing protective footwear, coveralls, and harnesses.
It is often a very noisy environment, and you will be required to wear hearing protection on a regular basis.
You may be required to assist in the operation of handheld tools which may be heavy and loud and exhibit high levels of vibration.
Manual handling of heavy loads up to 20 kg (it being impossible to mechanise most of the physical tasks in the mine environment).
You will frequently work at height and/or from ropes or fall restraint equipment, you will be required to train in the use of and wear fall arrest equipment.
South Crofty is a deep, underground mine. The main access shaft, New Cooks Kitchen Shaft, is approximately eight hundred meters deep. All personnel must adhere to strict safety protocols and regulatory requirements to ensure the wellbeing of yourself and your colleagues in such a remote environment.
To reach the deeper levels of the mine, the primary access is via a small 8-person cage, with an emergency second means of egress provided with a 4-person 'bullet cage' of 800mm diameter.
Parts of the mine can be narrow with restricted height. You will often be expected to work in confined spaces accordingly.
Functions that are considered intrinsic to the role are:
Climbing ladders (in dark and wet conditions), especially in underground areas to access different levels of the mine and as a means of emergency/alternative exit.
A good base level of fitness and ability to undertake manual handling to enable the basic role requirements to be performed.
The ability to ride inside the shaft cages, which are of limited dimensions.
The ability to wear fall-arrest harnesses and associated restraints.
You will be offered, and expected to cooperate with, a (free) health assessment at regular intervals.
Key relationships
The role will report to the Health, Safety, Training and Environmental Manager, but there will be frequent interaction with all departments and their respective managers and team members. External relationships will include suppliers, local communities and external contractors. Regular involvement with national accreditation bodies and in national industry working groups will also be required.

Essential
Qualified trainer or have proven demonstrable training experience.
Previous experience of working in a company in the extractive, construction or industrial sectors
Ability to design and deliver engaging training materials
Organisational and time management skills
Ability to assess training needs and evaluate program effectiveness
Familiarity with different training methodologies and techniques.

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Able to deal with multiple jobs, concurrently ongoing

Desirable
Previous experience working in underground mining is extremely beneficial to the role.
Knowledge and exposure to UK mining legislation, National Occupational Standards for mining and the relevant competency requirements for the UK extractive industry.
