FAQ:
Q: I don't have a trampoline qualification. Can I still apply?
A: Yes. We will require you to have a British Gymnastics qualification in a discipline. With the changes to the BG coach education framework you will be able to transfer to trampoline and/or DMT with an add-on module. You may not be able to start immediately and have to wait for the BG modules/courses to be released during 2026.
Q: What is different about your four locations?
A: Kingston is the original location and caters for all Foundations, Somersaults and Competitive classes. It has our DMT programme and Rig Sessions. Chessington and New Malden are our leisure oriented locations. The classes stop at Somersault 1. Students progressing to Somersault 2 need to transfer to either Kingston or the Walton & Hersham location. Walton & Hersham is our full time dedicated facility. Walton & Hersham hosts our Holiday Camps, Disability One-to-One, Private Tuition, room bookings and has additional rooms for physical preparation. Kingston, Chessington and New Malden are pop up locations requiring staff onsite to erect and dismantle equipment before/after each class.
Q: Is your programme term-time or 12-month?
A: Our classes run 12-months a year non-stop through all school holiday periods. Walton & Hersham will only close for major holiday dates (Easter, Christmas, Halloween). Chessington and New Malden will only close if a school/community event takes place in the sports hall, on average twice a year. The Kingston location closes the most often, your shifts will be transferred to the Walton & Hersham location. Kingston is closed for 6 weeks in August/September for student enrolment at Kingston College, for this reason coaches are encouraged to work shifts at multiple locations and not solely at Kingston. When locations are closed and classes are not transferred then staff are required to take mandatory annual leave.
Q: I am a student who can't commit to 12-months a year, can I still apply?
A: This will be taken on a case-by-case basis. We are ideally looking for a regular face so our customers can build a relationship and rapport with their coach. There may be alternative roles for you such as Private Tuition, Disability One-to-One or New Member Consultations (sales) that are appointment based so have a greater level of flexibility.
Q: I am looking to coach ad-hoc as a cover coach. Can I apply?
A: This will be taken on a case-by-case basis. We are ideally looking for a regular face so our customers can build a relationship and rapport with their coach. There may be alternative roles for you such as Private Tuition, Disability One-to-One or New Member Consultations (sales) that are appointment based so have a greater level of flexibility. You can join our pool of cover coaches who we email if we have a sickness or holiday we can't cover with our regular workforce. It is best to contact us directly to discuss this role.
Q: Do I get holiday pay?
A: Yes, you will accrue holiday at 12.07% based on the hours. This is calculated on the last day of each month and added to your holiday allowance. Holidays must be taken in accordance with our employee handbook rules.
Q: What do you mean the classes have lesson plans and are pre-planned?
A: All classes follow a set routine so coaches know where they need to be every minute so everything runs like clockwork. Our syllabus is spread into the following levels for ages 7+. Foundations 1 > Foundations 2 > Foundations 3 > Somersault 1 > Somersault 2 > Somersault 3 > Competitive (Dream Chaser). Each class has a set lesson plan. Once you learn the lesson plan you can run on autopilot and really start coaching and connecting with the gymnasts.
Q: I want to upgrade my coaching qualifications. Can you help me with this?
A: Yes, we can assist you in gaining the next qualifications. This will allow you to teach higher level classes. We offer training agreements and offer mentored hours to help you pass/train for your BG qualifications. We regularly ask our coaches to share their personal coaching goals (3 year, 1 year, 3 months) and we help them achieve these.
Q: What is the pay progression?
A: Pay is based upon BG qualifications plus collective success of the coaching team. This is based on retention figures and financial goals. Pay premiums are offered if you are a location manager, duty manager or you take on additional roles such as school PE coaching or Disability One-to-One.
Q: Will I need to attend competitions?
A: Yes. If you are working with us we expect you to attend our Chessington Cup and London Gymnastics events. Chessington Cups last 5 hours and London Gymnastics events last 10 hours. We pay your regular hourly wage for your time at these events plus you will accrue annual leave. These events are held on a Sunday. You will be representing the club as either a coach or a judge.
Q: I coach at another club (or have another job), can I apply?
A: Yes. All we ask is you are honest with your other club(s)/employers. You also need to be clear in your time commitment and ensure you can commit to a class/appointment based role where your attendance is vital to the running of the business.
Q: What is your full calendar of shifts across your four locations?

Q: Do you offer daytime hours?
A: We have a full time facility at Walton & Hersham. We run some Disability One-to-One during the daytime. If you would like to start a pre-school (or alternative daytime class) at our facility then please reach out. Our current team coaches evenings and weekends so can't add daytime hours to their schedules.
Q: I have high level coaching qualification (Development Coach, Performance Coach, High Performance Coach) can I just coach competitive athletes.
A: No. We require coaches to coach across all class levels. You will initially start wherever we have open shifts or which shifts work with your schedule.
