We are seeking a dynamic Director of Operations to join our team at Oilfast Ltd. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all operational aspects of our fuel distribution services, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in meeting customer demands while driving the company's growth.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and driven
Transport and Operations Director
to lead our logistics and delivery operations for heating oil and commercial fuels across the UK.
This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and cost-effective movement of fuel from terminals to customers, overseeing fleet operations, driver management, and depot performance.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the fuel distribution industry, with a deep understanding of ADR regulations, fleet management, and customer service within the heating oil and commercial fuel sectors.
This strategic role involves oversight of logistics operations, regulatory compliance (including ADR, DVSA, and HSE), fleet performance, driver management, and overall operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end operations for the delivery of Kerosene and commercial fuels to domestic, agricultural, and commercial customers.
Ensure strict compliance with UK transport legislation, including ADR regulations for the carriage of dangerous goods, driver hours, and health & safety law.
Recruit, lead, and develop our transport manager and supervisors, drivers, and depot teams, ensuring adherence to best practice and high safety standards.
Manage the Operator's Licence (O-Licence) responsibilities across sites, ensuring compliance with DVSA and Traffic Commissioner requirements.
Implement effective fleet management, including vehicle acquisition, maintenance schedules, tachograph analysis, fuel usage, and emissions reduction strategies.
Develop and manage logistics budgets, cost controls, and KPI reporting to ensure operational efficiency and profitability.
Act as the company's senior responsible person for fuel logistics and ensure all transport activities align with environmental and quality standards.
Ensure robust driver recruitment, retention, training, and performance management systems are in place.
Manage and optimise fleet utilisation (tankers and rigid vehicles), maintenance, and safety compliance.
Work closely with supply, sales, compliance, and customer service teams to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and support business growth.
Drive a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and customer service throughout the organisation.
Required Skills and Experience
Proven experience in senior transport or logistics roles within the fuel, chemicals, or hazardous goods sector in the UK would be advantageous
In-depth knowledge of UK road transport regulations, including ADR, HSE, DVSA, and CPC requirements.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading multi-site or national operations teams.
Holder of, or eligible to be named on, an Operator's Licence.
Demonstrable experience in managing budgets, contracts, and large-scale logistics projects.
Familiarity with transport management systems (TMS), telematics, route planning, and driver performance systems.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.
Full UK driving licence; Class 1 HGV, Class 2 and ADR certification desirable but not essential.
Strong financial and operational acumen, including experience managing budgets, compliance costs, and fleet ROI.
Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
In-depth knowledge of UK transport legislation, including ADR for flammable liquids, driver working hours, tachograph rules, and HSE standards.
Desirable Qualifications:
CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) for Transport Managers.
NEBOSH or equivalent safety qualification.
Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001, FORS accreditation, or similar quality/environmental frameworks.
