You will report into the Transport Manager
Focus Areas of the Role
The success of the Transport Assistant will be measured by the effective delivery of the following key responsibilities:
Coordinate and process
abnormal load movement notifications with relevant authorities (e.g., police, local councils, highways agencies) in line with legal requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
of vehicle movements, permits, and associated compliance documentation.
Support daily fleet operations
by liaising with drivers, transport planners, and customers to ensure timely and efficient delivery and collection of plant equipment.
Provide administrative and operational support
to the transport and fleet team, including filing, data entry, reporting, and record management.
Handle internal and external queries
professionally, ensuring clear and prompt communication.
Manage and coordinate HS2 site bookings
and related access documentation.
Assist with compliance activities
, helping to ensure all transport and fleet operations meet health, safety, and legal obligations.
Raise purchase orders
for vehicle parts, repairs, and maintenance services under the authority of the Transport Manager, Depot Manager, or Head of Transport.
Ensure all departmental administration
--including documentation, records, and approvals--is completed accurately, checked, and filed appropriately.
Success Enablers
To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills, attributes, and experience:
Previous experience in
plant hire, construction, transport, or logistics administration
(desirable, though training will be provided).
Excellent organisational skills
with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Clear and confident communication skills
(both written and verbal) for liaising effectively with drivers, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
Proactive and adaptable
, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
Competent IT skills
, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Knowledge of
abnormal load regulations and transport compliance
(advantageous but not essential).
