Harley Transport is WSM's leading, privately-owned, transport firm. Currently we're recruiting for a transport assistant to support the business with a varied, exciting role. This will be an additional role to support the existing two members of staff (and me) in the office.

This position is open to any and all people that can work in a fast-paced environment and handle the pressure of deadlines, as well as the frantic juggling of loads, drivers, vehicles and anything else the operations throw at us day-to-day. We need someone with a driving license that can drive a vehicle when needed (local collections) as well as being happy to train to use our forklift(s). Applicant must live within a 20-minute commute of the office which can often mean on the other side of town, but we certainly wouldn't be accepting applications from anyone that needs to relocate or that cannot commute from a maximum of 20 mins from our office - where the position is and will always be based.

The role will require us to deal with our customer's requirements at all times. Our business has grown so much in the last 12-18 months that this now means our team will need to be available to deal with customers and suppliers at slightly unsociable hours. We're going to look at some type of a rota for being available and on-call split between all members of staff but expect working hours to possibly vary between 07:00 - 18:00 and an on call-type system until later evenings/overnight. FYI, we don't target night work or weekend work but there's always the occasional need for someone to speak with us in an emergency situation (breakdowns etc).

A background in transport would be great but an understanding of businesses and their ways of working is all that's needed to be successful in this role, combined with the enthusiasm to learn. Confident driver and a physically capable person that is willing and able to get involved with handling all aspects of moving loads from one vehicle to another, as well as loading/unloading vehicles with our forklift (full training provided).

At Harley Transport we treat our customers like friends (no joke, we literally do) so a fantastic personality, character and a good sense-of-humour is needed to withstand the #bants. Our insurance policy usually requires people to be 25+ but I'm not allowed (Indeed Police) to say that we can only accept applicants that are that age, so feel free to apply if you're 6 years old if you like, but we can't recruit anyone that can't drive our vehicles so it's probably pretty pointless. :-)

Phone interviews for this role will be held in the coming days/week and face-to-face interviews will probably be scheduled (in working hours) for w/c 11-8-25. The successfull applicant will be expected to start ASAP within any restrictions for notice period etc. This is a full-time, fully employed (PAYE) role, not self-employed. As you can probably work out, this role will be probably starting as minimum wage but shall increase depending on experience and speed of learning. One thing I always maintain is that your salary shall increase annually with the increase in minimum wage. That means whatever salary you are on, your money will increase annually by the same amount as the minium wage, as a minimum. That means you will never be earning less than minimum wage - something which some employers seem not to have implimented as a minimum standard for pay.
