Overview

Wincanton are looking for a Transport Clerk to join the transport operation at our Sainsbury's Distribution Centre site, in East Kilbride.

The Transport Clerk is responsible for supporting the transport and logistics operations of the company. This role involves handling administrative duties, maintaining accurate records, coordinating with drivers, and ensuring smooth scheduling of deliveries and collections. The Transport Clerk serves as a key link between transport staff, customers, and management.


The role is working any 5 days from 7 and therefore includes some weekend work.


There are three shifts available. These are not on rotation. You will be asked which of these you would prefer:


6am - 2pm


2pm - 10pm


10pm - 6am


Salary 29,787 p.a


This is an office-based role, with occasional visits to the warehouse or transport yard.


Regular interaction with drivers, customers, colleagues and management.


How will you contribute?



Assist in planning and scheduling transport routes, deliveries, and collections. Maintain accurate transport and logistics records, including driver logs, vehicle usage, and delivery notes. Prepare and process transport documentation such as manifests, delivery orders, and invoices. Liaise with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers to ensure timely and efficient service. Monitor vehicle movements and ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and safety requirements. Handle telephone and email inquiries related to transport operations. Support the transport manager with daily administrative tasks. Track and report on vehicle maintenance schedules and fuel usage. Assist in resolving delivery discrepancies, delays, or customer complaints.

What will you bring?



Previous experience in transport, logistics, or administration (preferred but not always essential). Strong organisational and time-management skills. Excellent communication and customer service abilities. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and transport/logistics software (advantageous). Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements (advantageous). A driver would be an advantage as public transport to this site is limited.
