The Role
We are looking for a Transport Co-ordinator to manage and optimise our transport operations based in Wellingborough. You will oversee the company fleet and lead a transport team, ensuring full compliance with operator licence requirements, safety regulations, and company procedures.
We currently operate 6 articulated combinations and 3 10t rigid vehicles from our Wellingborough site and 1 articulated combination from our Burnley Operating Centre
You will play a key role in improving transport performance, supporting drivers, and ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the company fleet in line with Operator Licence requirements (6 HGVs and 3 x 10-tonne vehicles)
Lead and supervise the transport team (up to 10 FTEs, both local and remote), promoting a positive and productive work environment
Ensure full compliance with driver hours, tachographs, DVIRs, VOSA requirements, insurance, and vehicle records
Manage vehicle servicing, repairs, MOTs, asset management, and replacements
Coordinate toll road accounts and raise purchase orders as required
Monitor drivers' performance and manage holiday cover
Monitor real-time tracking systems to ensure route and schedule adherence
Work closely with maintenance providers to plan servicing and repairs
Enforce safety standards and ensure drivers are trained in safe working practices
Maintain accurate transport, maintenance, and compliance records
Produce reports on KPIs including delivery efficiency, on-time performance, and vehicle utilisation
Collaborate with warehouse and inventory teams to support smooth loading and unloading
Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs and enhance efficiency
Be a nominated Transport Manager on the Company Operating Licences
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Transport Management CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
Experience within logistics or transport operations
Strong knowledge of route planning and Working Time Directives
Confident user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Desirable:
Qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or similar
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
Experience using transport management systems and tracking technology
