Job Purpose

The Transport Manager is responsible for the Distribution Centre Transport operations both inbound and outbound, and trunking operations between the DC\'s and the 3rd party hub sites primarily for Superdrug and Savers brands and including TPS as required. Ensuring store deliveries arrive on time and in full, as measured by system data and store feedback, within an agreed \xc2\xa3 budget.

To work effectively with Distribution, Transport Planning, Retail Operations, HO teams and Suppliers in maximising sales through optimised store availability and inventory accuracy.

To work with the relevant Driver Agencies and Maintenance providers to proactively build good working relationships and ensure ASW requirements are met at all times.

Reporting to the DC Site operations manager the Transport manager will work to an agreed set of KPI\'s to deliver operational excellence, service and delivery performance, and cost and efficiency targets

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Operational Excellence
To maintain transport operations which meets all relevant legal obligations and company standards of operation
Safe and Compliant
To ensure legal compliance for vehicle maintenance.
To be fully accountable for all health and safety for the operation.
To be the site-specific Operating Licence holder
Monitoring of minimum Driver Qualifying criteria (experience, points, language) for both recruitment and changes of status
Delivery of routine Driver safety & Security briefings
Ensuring systems are in place to ensure tractor and trailer units are roadworthy and maintained to correct standards
Ensuring checks and systems are in place to ensure all trailers are Load bar compliant
Monitoring accident rates and identification of root causes and actions to reduce
Compliance with completion of vehicle checks
Monitoring of driver working time compliance and retention of records managing admin for the local, (and possibly national) fleet as agreed

Security
To effectively manage security of property and product and transport assets through consistent delivery of the following agreed protocols.
Alarm setting failures
The rotation of driver\'s mates and drivers
Seal compliance - issuing to drivers, recording at stores
Tractor and trailer security
Security and shrinkage monitoring - Claims analysis by driver

Service and Delivery Performance
On time service delivery
To pro- actively manage customer needs and communication ensuring total satisfaction.
Work with Transport Planning and Warehouse teams to maximise trailer utilisation whilst limiting Left offs / burst outs -
Ensure Driver availability matches driver hours demand
Driver/mate behaviours - ensuring that we are comfortable with all the drivers and mates working on our account
Ensure effective Cage collection compliance - i.e. we are collecting all the cages in a timely manner
Cage scanning compliance - at DCs and hubs

Cost and efficiency
Ensure agreed budgets are met and variances accounted for in the delivery of services to the business, ensuring prompt action is taken to address any overspend.
To ensure accurate & timely weekly cost reporting to the business
To work with a high level of independence, making local decisions and being accountable for an operational budget
To develop & maintain backhaul and third party income ensuring profitability
Monitoring MPG and making sure action is being taken to improve
Planned Driver hours to be managed in line with budget
Driver Route compliance - ensure drivers are following the agreed route
Reconciling accuracy of agreed activity with Agency invoices, addressing any issues that arise
Driver performance - proactive management of driver performance ensuring driver action plans are in place with to achieve required improvement beyond minimum standards required

Microsoft Office - all packages, strong Excel.
Zetes/Nucleus.
Fleetboard and/ or other tracking and telemetry systems.
Tachomaster and Triscan.

Person Specification

Ideally educated to degree level or with strong vocational background.
CPC qualified (essential).
Strong experience within a broad and technical transport operation.
A good leader of effective teams.
PC literate, Numerate and Analytical.
Proactive - Using analytical skills to seek solutions.
Team-player able to work both collaboratively and independently
Results-focussed.
Common-sense and practical approach to situations.
Positive Attitude & self-motivated.
Flexible and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Strong attention to detail but aware of the bigger picture.
