YOUR ROLE
Our team based in Northampton, who provide essential distribution services within the healthcare sector for both hospital and patient-at-home care from our central NDC, have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and compliance-focused Transport Manager.
This pivotal role will see you leading a transport operation with dedicated temperature-controlled fleet where you will implement operational and customer service best practice with focuses on fleet and driver compliance.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
Reporting into the Senior Operations Manager, you will lead a team of transport operators and clerks where you will take full responsibility for developing the team, ensuring colleagues are engaged, motivated, and fully trained to meet operational targets and demand. You will work with your team to embed training and succession plans and ensure absence, sickness and holiday cover is managed efficiently so not to affect operational activities.
As the Transport Manager, you will be the O' Licence holder managing day-to-day transport activities with focuses on legal compliance, driver and sub-contractor performance, cost efficiencies, and service delivery and actively promoting health, safety and quality standards where you will encourage individual responsibility. You will maintain an optimal level of operational efficiency and resources at all times, ensuring operating procedures and processes meet quality requirements, driving performance improvements through efficient auditing practices and robust reporting mechanisms. You will ensure that accurate measurements of KPIs are maintained and provide key stakeholders with operational updates, analysing service and identifying issues where you will implement immediate remedial actions. You will propose enhancements to the transport operation highlighting opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, growth, and change.
This role will require you to not only focus on transport operations for Northampton but also taking overall operator duties for our out base operations and teams in Leeds, Exeter, Redditch, Dartford, and Irlam, therefore a full clean UK driving license will be required and a flexible approach to working location.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
To be successful in your application you will be skilled Transport Manager, experienced in leading and developing transport and driver teams, ideally within a healthcare or temperature-controlled transportation environment. You will possess excellent leadership skills, with demonstrable experience of driving innovation, change, and continuous improvement initiatives. With a strong customer focus you will be capable of building credible internal and external relationships, confident in challenging the status quo and skilled at managing complex matters, practiced at implementing corrective actions.
It goes without saying that you will be a natural communicator and presenter confident in showcasing operational successes and improvement initiatives to both internal and external stakeholder groups. This role requires an individual who is resilient with natural problem solving, decision making and influencing skills.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experiences:

  • CPC management qualification.
  • Clean driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • Proven experience as an O'Licence holder.
  • Excellent knowledge of driver compliance, rules and regulations.
  • Experienced in managing transport and fleet operations.
