We are recruiting a Transport Planner to join our established transport operation based in Banbury. This is a commercially focused planning role with a strong emphasis on route optimisation, vehicle allocation and subcontractor management within a fast-paced logistics environment.
The role requires someone who can think beyond day-to-day order planning, with a clear focus on efficient route execution, cost control and effective use of own fleet, network services and subcontractors. Experience using Paragon routing or an alternative planning software is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Route optimisation and planning to maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise cost
Allocation of work across own fleet, pallet network, and subcontractors
Management and performance control of subcontracted transport providers
Use of Paragon to plan and optimise daily and forward schedules
Managing delivery constraints including time windows, vehicle restrictions and customer requirements
Liaising with drivers, subcontractors, customers and internal teams to ensure service delivery
Monitoring transport costs, service levels and operational KPIs
Supporting compliance with drivers' hours, operator licence requirements, and transport regulations
About You
Proven experience in a Transport Planner or Traffic Office role
Strong understanding of route optimisation and resource allocation
Experience managing subcontractors and external hauliers
CPC qualification highly desirable
Paragon experience advantageous (but not essential)
Good UK geographical knowledge
Commercially aware with a strong cost-control mindset
Calm, organised, and effective under pressure
Confident communicator with drivers, subcontractors, and customers
Competent IT skills (TMS, Excel, Microsoft Office)
