The transport planner will coordinate the efficient movement of equipment, plant, and temporary infrastructure to and from renewable energy and construction project sites. You will ensure all transport activities are executed safely, cost-effectively, and in compliance with industry regulations, while supporting the organisation's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and schedule daily and weekly transport operations for the delivery and collection of equipment to project sites across the UK.
Optimise vehicle loads and routing to reduce emissions, fuel use, and costs, supporting sustainability goals.
Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and the hire desk team to align transport plans with project timelines and site conditions.
Liaise with external hauliers, internal drivers, and contractors to ensure reliable service delivery.
Ensure compliance with UK transport legislation, including driver hours, working time directives, and vehicle weight restrictions.
Use Transport Management Systems (TMS) and fleet tracking software to manage vehicle movements, monitor progress, and adjust plans as required.
Maintain accurate transport records and documentation, including delivery notes, risk assessments, and vehicle checklists.
Plan and schedule routine and ad hoc maintenance of fleet vehicles and trailers to ensure availability and safety compliance.
Support the development and implementation of environmentally responsible transport practices aligned with ISO 14001 and other industry standards.
Support the logistics or operations manager with administrative duties and ad hoc projects as required.
Manage and administer short-term vehicle hire requirements.
Manage and maintain the motor insurance database.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience in a transport or logistics planning role within the construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy sectors.
Knowledge of UK road transport legislation and compliance requirements.
Strong IT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and transport management systems (TMS).
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with drivers, colleagues, and customers.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
