Job Overview


We are seeking a proactive and highly organised

Transport Planner

to join our busy team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a transport office and possess a strong understanding of drivers' hours, Working Time Directive (WTD), and container work. An understanding of European operations would be advantageous, along with knowledge of general haulage and backloading processes.

The Transport Planner will work Tuesday to Saturday on a permanent basis.



Responsibilities



Transport Office Operations:

Assist in the daily management of the transport office, coordinating logistics to ensure a smooth operational flow.

Driver Hours & WTD Compliance:

Monitor and ensure that all drivers adhere to legal requirements, including driver's hours and Working Time Directive regulations.

Container Work:

Coordinate and manage container transport operations to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery to customers.

European Operations (Desirable):

Support the planning and execution of European transport operations as needed, ensuring compliance with international regulations.

General Haulage:

Organise and oversee general haulage operations, ensuring efficient use of fleet resources and compliance with transport laws.

Backloading:

Maximize backload opportunities to ensure cost-effective and efficient transport routes.

Customer Service:

Act as the main point of contact for clients and drivers, ensuring all transport-related queries and issues are resolved efficiently.

Reporting & Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of all transport activities, including route planning, vehicle use, driver logs, and backloading opportunities.

Health & Safety:

Ensure that all health and safety standards are met and maintained within transport operations.

Key Skills and Experience:



Experience:

Proven experience working in a transport office is essential.

Compliance Knowledge:

Strong understanding of driver's hours and the Working Time Directive (WTD).

Container Work:

Experience in managing container logistics and transportation.

European Knowledge (Desirable):

Understanding of European transport regulations and logistics operations.

General Haulage & Backloading

: In-depth knowledge of general haulage processes and experience maximizing backloading opportunities.

Communication:

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with drivers, clients, and internal teams.

Problem-Solving:

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.

IT Skills:

Proficiency in using transport management systems and other relevant IT tools. Previous experience in a transport office role is essential. Familiarity with relevant transport laws and regulations. A logistics or transport-related qualification (preferably a CPC) is desirable but not essential
