We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Transport Manager to oversee our plant & fleet operations. The Transport Manager will be responsible for managing a team, coordinating the delivery/collections of machines, attachments & waste skips, coordinating maintenance schedules, and maintaining high standards of customer service. You will need to ensure resources are optimised, and any service issues are resolved promptly
Main Duties
Developing route plans for all drivers.
Managing the maintenance schedules & weekly "Defect" job sheets, fleetcheck
Create/Utilise systems to manage the transport operation, servicing, analysis, and documentation (includes all fleet & plant), fleetcheck
Maintain accurate records.
Liaising and resolving RTA, incidents, complaints (relating to driver behaviour) with relevant departments.
Compliance with all relevant bodies, incl movement orders etc.
Requirements
Your usual hours of work will be a minimum of 45 hours a week Monday to Friday. However, you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team. Your job will be a mix of office based, and site based, as required to ensure the smooth running of the plant & fleet.
You have responsibility for other staff members who will all report directly to you.
Skills & Experience:
Thorough understanding of transport management, requirements, and dynamics
Be able to use software, Microsoft word & Excel and be willing to learn software relating to your job role
Ability in transport planning and Customer/Supplier relationship management
Leadership with ability to manage and motivate a staff team.
Ability to work under pressure.
Bonus Skills & Experience: Not necessary but helpful to your application:
Certificate of Professional Competence in International/National Transport Manager Qualification
Full driving license including requirement HGV.
CPC National or International Transport Manager qualification
You need to have and maintain (with regular training and updates as necessary) the knowledge, technical skills and qualifications that are necessary to perform your job role.
What You'll Be Doing:
Ensure full legal compliance, efficient scheduling, and fleet optimisation
Liaise daily with drivers, offering support and guidance
Carry out spot checks and audits of daily vehicle checks completed by drivers
Optimise fleet operations
Oversee vehicle maintenance and repair scheduling in coordination with the workshop manager.
Support driver training and operational performance
Manage transport documentation
Lead health and safety compliance within the Transport department
Other Skills & requirements:
Experience in a senior transport or logistics leadership role
In-depth knowledge of transport regulations, Driver Hours, WTD, and Tachograph legislation
A proactive, supportive leadership style and ability to positively influence driver behaviours
Experience working in a compliance-focused environment
Strong organisational, communication and analytical skills
Confidence in working with technology (e.g. telematics, routing systems, vehicle cameras)
