About the role

We are a growing multi-national food wholesaler looking to recruit a Transport Team Manager to work in our Distribution Centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.


Reporting to Transport Operations Manager, this role requires someone capable of working under pressure, displaying a good analytical approach to work to deliver business results and to achieve performance and service levels. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Manager with previous transport background. Candidates will require some team supervisory and people management experience. Working within a team environment, the successful candidate works to achieve operational KPIs to tight deadlines and drive improvements by engaging the team in promoting a positive culture.


There is a need for flexibility as the successful candidate may be required to work on a '5 from 7' working basis. Hours of work will be predominantly Nights but flexibility of hours is required with Operational needs and may include weekend working.

You will be responsible for
The efficient operation of your day-to-day shift. Maximise productivity and quality through monitoring, encouraging and supporting the drivers and clerical team. Ensure effective use of all available resource, working based on continual improvement and cost-down. Ensure KPI's are met. Monitor and control absence. Ensure effective communications both internally in Transport department, within the Distribution Centre and with Customers including Supply Chain and branches. Identify training needs and design/implement training plans. Challenge under performance and recognise good performance in equal measure. Conducting disciplinary and absence hearing effectively when required. Conducting appraisal reviews for the colleagues within your Team.

You will need

Previous experience within a Transport operation will be essential. Excellent people management skills together with the ability to plan resource and report KPI information with accuracy are key skills for this role. A good understanding of multi temperature warehouse / transport procedures and compliance and able to demonstrates high levels of initiative, focus and commitment and flexibility.

Commitment and ability to work under pressure Excellent people management skills and the ability to develop self and others Experience of applying a working knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Health & Safety, Employment Law, Discrimination etc. A good understanding of Transport Legislation and the impact of non-compliance to protect the company Operator Licence Be part of Transport Department culture into a "Great Place to Work" atmosphere with colleague engagement and inclusion a key focus. Ability to effectively plan labour and resource to deliver operational requirements to a timely manner whilst meeting agreed KPI's and Service Levels Effective team worker and confident and positive communicator. PC literate in Excel and Word CPC qualification is preferred but not essential requirement.

Full training and development will be given to successful candidates.
