Grace Eyre is looking to recruit Travel Buddy workers' to support the delivery of the Travel Buddy programme. These workers would feel comfortable and confident in using public transport themselves and confident to train individuals to be independently safe on a selected journey. Travel Buddy workers are also involved in the delivery of Travel Training Drama workshops (Drama on the Bus) and workshops on travel safety. These are usually delivering in schools, colleges and with partners, e.g. other social care charities.

You will work closely with the Active Lives Management team and receive a full induction and regular support.

This is an interesting and rewarding role where you really see the benefit of the work that you deliver. This role is part time and will need to be worked flexibly, e.g. supporting morning journeys to colleges or places of work. The Travel Buddy project works across West Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

Travel time and travel expenses will be respected.

Brief outline of the role:

Being able to organize your day and keep in good communication with your team is key to this role. Part of this role will be working with individuals directly to support them to travel independently and build their confidence. So you need to feel confident using public transport yourself, e.g. knowing what to do when buses are cancelled.

Another important part of this role is to be able to support the delivery of workshops on travelling safety. This requires you to feel comfortable speaking to others, e.g. individuals or in small groups. We will give you proper notice of these workshops. Having good IT and/ or admin skills would be desirable.

To support you in both aspects to this role will be given an induction and clear role. Your team would be available 'on the day' for further support, e.g. on the phone or in person.

If you wish to have an informal chat about the role (before applying for the role), please contact Shaun Washington-Doyle - swashington@grace-eyre.org

From directly speaking to the people that we work with they want people who support and work with them are nice and kind. We want staff to give us space (when we need it) and be respectful.

We also make sure we get evaluations from the people we support when doing Travel Buddy. We want the service to be the best that it can be.

You will have demonstrable commitment and positive attitude in working with people with learning disabilities and/ or autism.
