Working closely with the
Senior Tree Officer
, you will be responsible for assessing
tree work applications
and
planning/development proposals
that may impact trees. The role involves both office-based assessment work and regular site visits to ensure decisions are informed by direct inspection and professional judgement.

Key Responsibilities
Assess
Tree Preservation Order (TPO)
and
Conservation Area
tree work applications, preparing recommendations and decisions in accordance with legislation and policy.
Evaluate the
arboricultural implications of planning applications
and development proposals.
Conduct regular site visits and inspections to assess tree condition, risk, and suitability.
Provide professional advice to planning officers, developers, and the public on tree-related matters.
Assist in the preparation and review of TPOs, including site surveys and associated documentation.
Support the enforcement of unauthorised tree works and contribute to appeals and public inquiries where required.
Maintain accurate records and update tree management databases.
Promote good arboricultural practice and contribute to the development of local policies and strategies.
About You
Demonstrable knowledge of
arboriculture
,
tree legislation
, and
planning processes
.
Experience of assessing tree work applications and/or advising on the impact of development on trees.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare professional reports.
Competent IT user, including mapping and database software.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Full UK driving licence and ability to undertake frequent site visits.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Minimum
Level 3 qualification in Arboriculture
(e.g. National Certificate or equivalent).
Experience in arboricultural inspection, assessment, or planning work.
Understanding of
TPO legislation
and related planning procedures.
Desirable
Membership of the
Arboricultural Association
or equivalent professional body.
Higher-level arboricultural qualification (Level 4 or above).
Experience working within a local authority planning environment.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Proof of Right to Work in the UK.
Satisfactory employment references.
Full UK driving licence.
