GLA Tutor Role:



GLA Group are looking to add to our enviable and first-rate delivery team with the addition of a vocational tutor. The current team works across the UK in HMP's delivering Roofing, CSCS, Labouring and Green Initiatives.

Requirements:



Be TQUK Level 3 trained or willing to undertake course (one week course)

Have a background in roofing or construction (although full training will be given)

Monday to Friday (courses run Monday to Friday lunchtime)

Willing to travel across the UK (sometimes on a Sunday depending on distance)

Delivering to up to a cohort of 10 (courses are designed for 8 - 10 men)

Be Ministry of Justice vetted (security vetting required to work in prisons)

Be willing to be Key and Radio trained (this includes anti-corruption and SASH training)

Comfortable working alone with prisoners (prisoners are security enhanced)

Able to bring tools in and out of prisons (all tools on locked wheeled trolley)

Carry out minor maintenance on rigs (when not delivering courses)

Have own transport (mileage is paid)

GLA have been a vocational training provider since 2017 and delivering in prisons since 2019. During that time, we have delivered in 20 prisons across England and Wales.

GLA delivers short courses and they range from two weeks for a pitched roofing course and one week for all other courses.

In addition to working in the prison environment, GLA also work for a range of clients including DWP, The Probation Service, SIG Roofing Services and various charitable organisations.

All courses are proven and have easy to follow lesson plans and tutor notes. Full training is given for all the courses offered and the support continues throughout the year.

GLA tutors inspire learners with a positive experience that includes classroom and practical works. The aim is to instil confidence as well as practical skills, including softer skills that can be used in employment and social activities.

Who

GLA are looking for:



Confident individual who can deliver to a range of learners with different learning needs

Flexible to adapt lesson plans should regime learning hours change which can be frequent

Able to work alone with up to 10 prisoners at a time

Communicate and work with prison staff on a daily basis

Keep up to date written assessments on completion of every course

Within travelling distance to Colchester premises

At the end of any course the tutor will carry out a stock take of materials, condition of rigs and tools and this will be submitted to the GLA admin manager no later than three working days after a course has finished. This enables GLA to deliver any top up materials or carry out maintenance to rigs or tools before the next course commences.

In addition to the teaching role, the tutor will be expected to assist in maintaining rigs (painting and repairing), carrying out course inductions and supporting other tutors with visits to other prisons. This type of role will happen when there is a week or period without an allocated course.

The role of tutor will involve travel across the UK and staying in hotels at least four nights per week if daily travel to and from a site is not feasible. GLA cover all these costs, but it should be made clear that the position is not a standard 9-5 role.

Pay: From 32,000.00 per year
