About the Role:
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable, and adaptable
Tutor
to work with children and young people who are currently not accessing full-time education. Our learners may have additional needs, be school non-attenders, or be awaiting a placement that can meet their educational and emotional needs.
The role involves delivering bespoke 1:1 or small-group sessions, usually for two hours per child per day, across five days per week. Sessions take place in the child's home or, where appropriate, in a local library or community setting. Your goal will be to re-engage each learner with education, supporting both their academic progress and their confidence, motivation, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, individualised lessons (typically English, Maths, and foundation skills) tailored to each child's needs, interests, and education plan.
Create a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment in the home or library setting.
Build positive relationships with students, families, and professionals to ensure consistent support.
Record and report attendance, engagement, and progress.
Encourage learners to develop independence, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning.
Essential Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people with additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, SEMH, or anxiety-related non-attendance.
Understanding of inclusive and differentiated teaching approaches.
Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and maintain a flexible, child-centred approach.
Teaching or tutoring qualification (QTS, HLTA, TA qualification, or equivalent experience).
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Availability across
Monday to Friday
to provide consistent support.
Desirable:
Experience supporting children who are out of school, on reduced timetables, or awaiting placement.
Familiarity with EHCPs and multi-agency collaboration.
Access to a vehicle and ability to travel locally.
