To deliver the tuition of a new National Saturday Club in Film & Screen for under 16s, at MAC Birmingham,
starting in January 2026.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the arts and informal learning experiences and enjoys teaching filmmaking programs and workshops. You are required to be reliable, personable, and flexible, to cater for each student's personal goals and aims.
Midlands Arts Centre's Learning and Participation programme is extensive with over 150 term courses and a wide selection of short courses for children, young people, and adults. Our courses and community programme cover many subjects, from visual arts and crafts to digital arts, performance, music, and wellbeing.
The National Saturday Club is an established framework of extracurricular learning, which places young people at its heart. The programme aims to inspire young people, to build their skills for the future, and spark their imagination. Each Club provides a unique and welcoming space where young people can explore new ideas, make friends and develop as individuals, without the pressure of exams.
Overall Job Purpose
We are looking for someone to deliver a brand-new Film and Screen club as part of the National Saturday Club programme
for the Spring Term of the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
You will need to devise clear lesson plans and structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant's needs.
The project is outlined below, which you would be expected to shape and make your own:
Film&Screen National Saturday Club at MAC Birmingham
Saturday mornings, 10:00 - 12:00
13 - 16yrs
All levels
Maximum of 16 in the group
18-20 delivery weeks including Masterclasses and national visits coordinated by NSC
Additional responsibilities as follows:
You will need to devise clear a structure to enable progression of learning, and the ability to adapt to each participant's needs.
Ensuring the program is delivered as per the agreed description and framework.
Teaching students to the agreed level (eg, All Levels)
Preparation ahead of the program for equipment and technical requests by liaising with the Learning Team.
To fulfil administrative duties as required including the completion of data capture forms, maintaining an accurate register of club member attendance, end of project evaluations and collection of club member questionnaires as required.
Continuous reflection and evaluation of the project, and quality of delivery.
Work within MAC's policies with specific attention to Safeguarding and Health & Safety.
Note
This program will run on Saturday mornings throughout the academic year at the times listed.
Week one will be Saturday 17th January 2026 with subsequent workshop dates following the structure of the academic year.
Ideally the chosen candidate would be available to attend the National Saturday Club Conference on Thursday 23rd October at Thinktank in Birmingham. However this is not a requirement to apply for the role
We expect the successful candidate to attend an induction session at MAC before they start.

Education
Educated/experienced to a suitable level in Filmmaking.
Bachelor's degree or professional certification in relevant subject such as filmmaking, animation, digital media, fine art etc.
Professional Experience
Minimum 3 years as a practicing filmmaker and/or facilitator.
Strong current filmmaking practice
Experience of running similar film clubs, courses or workshop series for under 18s
Experience of working with children with additional needs
Experience of working with children or groups with limited prior access to creative arts education
Knowledge
Proven understanding of filmmaking and/or digital art practice.
Proven understanding of relevant computing software, filmmaking or recording equipment as required.
Strong understanding of contemporary film and screen landscape within the West Midlands
Understanding of National Saturday Club model and organisation
Knowledge of filmmakers working nationally and internationally.
Strong understanding of safeguarding processes and protocols
Skills & Abilities
Punctual and reliable.
Proven ability to communicate well with a range of people using varied communication methods.
A skilled facilitator who can inspire participants to achieve their creative potential.
Good written communication and administration skills, responding to offers of work in a timely manner.
