We're seeking compassionate and qualified professionals to provide one-to-one specialist support for university students with visual impairments. We are recruiting across the UK for remote support as well as local in-person.
About the Role
As an SSP-VI, you'll deliver bespoke support that reflects each student's communication style, educational background, and lived experience. Your focus is on enabling access--not teaching subject content--by helping students overcome barriers and develop independent learning strategies.
Support may include:
Breaking down assignment briefs and unpacking complex English concepts
Supporting research and composition strategies
Assisting with presentation structure and delivery
Facilitating access to visual content and digital platforms
Helping with organisation, time management, and communication
Advising university staff (with student consent) on inclusive adjustments
Qualification Requirements:
To deliver this role, you must hold:
EITHER
A
vision-related postgraduate qualification
, such as:
Inclusive Education (Visually Impaired Learners) (PgDip)
PG/Dip Teaching Learners with a Visual Impairment (QTVI)
PGDip/MA Education of Children and Young People with Vision Impairments
PG/DIP Teaching and Supporting Learners with Visual Impairments in Further Education
Specialist Qualification in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People) Grad Dip
Desirable Skills:
Experience supporting students with vision impairments in higher education
Confidence using assistive technology and adapting materials
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Professionalism, punctuality, and confidentiality
Accurate record-keeping and caseload management
