UK&I EHS Advisor

Summary




The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Advisor is responsible for providing direction and support for all EH&S activities, including implementation, monitoring, and review of C&W compliance/performance.



Role Purpose:




An instrumental role in the development and effective implementation of Cushman & Wakefield (CW) Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Strategy, focussed predominantly on High-Risk Service Lines in the UK&I Cluster.


Delivering effective improvement programmes across quality, health, safety, and environmental performance and driving positive EHS Culture and engagement across the CW organisation, in support of CW business objectives.


This role directly reports to the UK&I EHS Cluster Manager and will require a focussed, energetic, and experienced professional with proven success in driving EHS engagement and managing the effective implementation of EHS improvement programmes.

Core Responsibilities:




The UK&I EHS Advisor will seek out opportunities for improvement and implement solutions across our Project Development Services (PDS) & Asset Services (AS) businesses in the UK&I. Critically the role will be responsible for supporting the UK&I EHS Cluster Manager in identifying areas of significant potential organisational risk in the UK&I and developing effective implementation programmes for robust health and safety mitigation controls, policies, procedures, and guidance in accordance with the UK&I Cluster Improvement Plan, C&W EMEA EHS strategy, and local legislation.


The role will work at all levels and across all C&W departments and functions, therefore strong stakeholder engagement will be critical to the candidate's success, the candidate must also have experience in senior stakeholder engagement.


Relationships will include, most significantly, those with our higher risk business units including:

Our UK&I PDS department which manages construction projects and refurbishment/fit out works for clients across the cluster. Our UK AS department has a facilities management and property management focus and manages approximately 1250 properties across the EMEA region (550 in the UK) ranging from offices and shopping centres to industrial parks and vacant land. The candidate will work closely with the UK Health and Safety Risk Management Lead to ensure compliance with UK&I Policies and Procedures across Asset Services.

As a significant portion of this role focusses on driving engagement with our PDS colleagues, it is expected that the candidate will have experience of working on construction projects of varying risk levels in a health and safety capacity. It is also expected that the candidate will have pre-existing health and safety experience within the facilities management sector. Experience in environmental management is desirable.


The UK&I EHS Advisor will be the key interface between the UK&I Cluster and the EMEA EHS Lead for Owner & Occupier Services, ensuring both effective representation of the UK&I High Risk Service Lines at EMEA level and effective implementation of regional requirements in the UK&I.


The candidate must have proven experience in implementing initiatives to improve EHS compliance and awareness such as;

Strong knowledge of UK&I construction-based legislation, such as the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015, the Building Safety Act 2022 etc and how to apply it. Construction related best practices in terms of health and safety Understanding of implementation and monitoring of ISO Standards, i.e. ISO 45001, 14001 Leading Audit Programmes, conducting audits and, monitoring the activities of external consultants and auditors operating on in the UK&I on behalf of the EMEA EHS Team. The evaluation of effective training programmes to ensure employees are competent regarding their health and safety duties. Providing support and technical advice to operational managers to enable them to undertake their roles and responsibilities for health, safety and environment within their areas of the business.

The successful candidate will be integral in the development, success and ongoing improvement of CW High Risk Service Line safety and environmental management systems, with specific responsibilities in relation assurance, audit, provision of EHS Advice and implementation of improvement plans.


The candidate must have proven experience in advising on and supporting with initiatives to improve EHS compliance and awareness and will be responsible for:

Monitoring and reporting on performance from within UK&I High Risk Service Lines, against UK&I objectives, targets, and improvement programmes in association with the UK&I EHS Cluster Manager. Routinely presenting on EHS matters at high-risk service line meetings, attending Senior Service Line Leadership meetings and forums. Implementing EMEA EHS Strategy requirements within the UK&I High Risk Service Lines. Providing support and technical advice to UK&I high risk service line employees, Sector Leads and technical teams on EHS matters, supporting service line representatives and line managers to understand and undertake their roles and responsibilities for health, safety, and the environment within their areas of the business. Cooperating and coordinating the timely and effective sharing of information with service line, internal insurance teams and insurance providers in the provision of incident information associated with UK&I incidents. Triage and monitoring of all incidents recorded in UK&I across all service lines and responsibility for further investigation for all CW High Risk Service Line Incidents.

Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience:



Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of implementing models of health, safety and environmental management in accordance with the requirements of international standards.

Minimum Level 3 qualification in Construction Safety.


Detailed knowledge and practical application of safety in the construction field. A Principal Designer qualification is desirable but not essential.


Certified membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CertIOSH) or other professional safety body and maintenance of requisite CPD is essential.


Experience of working in a construction project environment, as well as office and retail facilities.


Detailed knowledge and a proven track record of implementation of processes which meet the requirements of relevant health and safety law, in the UK & Ireland.


The successful candidate will currently hold a position within an organisation where brand and reputation management are seen as critical.
