Job Description

Our dynamic UK-based peer-to-peer lending company is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Underwriter to join our team in Gravesend, Kent.

The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of risk assessment, financial analysis, and lending regulations within the UK market and ideally within the bridging/peer-to-peer sector. This role plays a critical part in evaluating loan applications, ensuring the sound management of credit risk, and supporting the growth of our innovative lending platform.

Key Responsibilities



Risk Assessment:


Evaluate borrower applications by conducting detailed risk analysis, financial assessments, and creditworthiness reviews, ensuring compliance with internal policies and UK regulatory requirements.

Underwriting Decisions:


Make informed decisions regarding loan approvals and risk mitigation strategies, including determining appropriate interest rates, loan terms, and collateral requirements.

Portfolio Management:


Monitor existing loan portfolios, assess performance metrics, and proactively identify emerging risks or opportunities to enhance portfolio quality.

Policy Development:


Assist in the creation and refinement of underwriting guidelines, risk models, and decision frameworks, collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve underwriting processes.

Stakeholder Engagement:


Communicate underwriting decisions and recommendations to senior management, the risk team, and external stakeholders, including investors and regulators.

Regulatory Compliance:


Stay current with industry trends and changes in legislation related to lending, ensuring all underwriting practices adhere to relevant UK laws and standards.

Team Leadership:


Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Qualifications and Experience



Education:


A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field is preferred. A postgraduate qualification or professional certification is advantageous.

Experience:


Experience in underwriting, credit risk assessment, or a related financial role, preferably within the lending or financial services sector.

Industry Knowledge:


Solid understanding of peer-to-peer lending dynamics and UK credit regulations, with a proven track record of making sound, data-driven decisions.

Analytical Skills:


Proficiency in financial analysis, risk modelling, and statistical techniques, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and market trends.

Communication Skills:


Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex underwriting decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

IT Proficiency:


Familiarity with underwriting software, financial modelling tools, and databases. Advanced Excel skills are essential.
