About the Department & Team:
Underwriting Governance been set up as a first line underwriting support function. The main objectives of Underwriting Governance are:To establish and maintain the underwriting control framework of which underwriters are required to operate and will be monitored against.
To monitor, evaluate and independently challenge underwriting exceptions and underwriting governance frameworks.
To provide challenge to the underwriters and hold them to account in respect of adherence to the Underwriting Controls and Procedures.
To provide an overall view of the underwriting controls in place for all Underwriting Platforms and Teams across Liberty
To provide support to the Independent Review process and ensure actions are tracked and followed up to resolve.
To ensure that Liberty obtains confidence that the underwriting controls and strategic plans are being complied with; and
To ensure that Liberty Mutual Group (LMG), and the Regulators (including Lloyd's) obtain confidence that Liberty is exercising effective control of internal Underwriting processes.
Underwriting Governance reports to the UK Legal Entity Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to and supporting the Head of Underwriting Governance in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the strategic objectives of Underwriting Governance, and specifically the underwriting control framework. Day to day responsibilities include:Design, implement and maintain the first line of defence framework and processes to ensure compliance with underwriting governance and controls.
Analysing and the thorough investigation of all governance/control reports for underwriting authority exception and peer review, including communication and training to underwriters and reviewing findings.
Maintain and report underwriting control adherence / exception reports, identify trends and suggest remediation and improvements.
Partner with assigned underwriting classes/divisions, to provide independent challenge on matters concerning underwriting governance.
Reporting and presenting on behalf of Underwriting Governance to relevant Underwriting and legal entity Committees / Groups.
Provide support to the business on the Independent Review process, and the associated classes to ensure all actions and trends are monitored, tracked and resolved.
Provide project support and ongoing maintenance of the timely update and production of the Underwriting Controls document and any associated training.
Leverage common processes and technology to drive efficiency and simplicity across products and functions, and where applicable across regions. Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvements and simplification.
Keep accurate records and documentation to maintain a suitable audit trail which demonstrates the investigation and conclusion of exception reporting queries.
Providing support to the Underwriting Governance Management team in respect of any strategic developments and projects across Underwriting Governance.

Skills and Experience:The ability to manage and prioritise multiple initiatives.
Experience in investigating and implementing frameworks.
Demonstrable experience of providing robust, fair and independent challenge with stakeholders
Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Knowledge & experience in insurance/reinsurance underwriting/assurance markets
Knowledge and experience of both Lloyd's and the company markets.
Solid communication and presentation skills with the ability to manage difficult conversations.
Solid knowledge and experience of either a technical area, underwriting a commercial line of business or a role in compliance for a commercial insurer or syndicate.
Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, able to identify, analyse and resolve issues.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
Good report authoring skills as the role will involve drafting several reports to stakeholders.
Ability to work in conjunction with several key departments including Underwriting, Legal & Compliance and Internal Audit.
