Job Description

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are expanding the specialist urogynaecology nursing service to improve pathways for those with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction and seeking an experienced nurse to join our established multidisciplinary team.



Th e role is based predominantly at St. Richards Ho spital , however on occasion may need to provide cross site cover within U H Sussex .



The post will be a Band 7 for an experienced Urogynaecological Nurse with a proven track record in teaching and education as well as service improvement and leadership.



The post holder will be able to co-ordinate and deliver an expert nurse led service including vaginal pessary, bladder retraining, catheter care, TWOC and urodynamic assessments.



For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to apply for a developmental role where the successful candidate will receive full training and support both formally through appropriate courses and from members of the MDT. This will be at Band 6 and experience in Gynaecology or urology is essential.



On completion of training within the Urogynaecology service, the successful applicant w ill provide expert care and treatment to patients, under the guidance of the Urogynaecology Consultants.

The purpose of the post is to contribute to a specialist u rogynaecology nursing service for women with pelvic floor and bladder dysfunction alongside the existing Urogynaecology Nursing staff, Urogynaecology Consultants, and the rest of the multidisciplinary team.



The Urogynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will work close ly with the Urogynaecology Consultant Team to deliver care according to current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence ( NICE ) , Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecology (RCOG) and British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) guidance, thereby supporting the service to expand and develop further .



The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical expertise in all aspects of Urogynaecology and will deliver an expert nursing service with their own nurse-led outpatient case load (including but not exclusiv ely; vaginal pessary management and insertion, bladder training, urodynamics, patient education, catheter care and management, medication management, post-operative assessment). The role may require developing additional clinical skills as the service continues to progress i n line with current research and guidelines .



The post holder will support the Gynaecology Matron and Urogynaecology Clinical Lead by participat ing in the continued development and day to day coordination of the Urogynaecology service.

Delivery a highly specialist individual service to patients experiencing a variety of urogyna e cological problems.



To collect and analyse data as required in line with the BSUG standards to audit and evaluate performance including:



Patient satisfaction to gain feedback for service improvement



Completion of BSUG database



Disseminate patient data including post-operative findings through the national urogynaecology BSUG database



P resent the performance data/ audit to the multidisciplinary team on a regular basis .



Ensure compliance with BSUG standards



Support the continuing operational and strategic development of specialist services within Urogynaecology. This includes out-patient flexible cystoscopy and associated treatments such as Botox, Bulkamid (urethral bulking) and Sacral nerve stimuation .



Assist in the continuing development of the U rogynaecology service and the implementation of best evidence based practice in accordance with NICE , RCOG and BSUG guidelines .



Support the unit to obtain and then maintain accreditation for the provision of specialist Urogynaecology services (BSUG).



Initiate and participate in management of change to broaden activities and innovative care ; standards and communication links through the Acute and Primary Care Trust s .



Communicate highly complex , sensitive or contentious information effectively with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals, including consultants and clinical nurse specialists within the Trust .



Promote excellent communication both verbal and written within the multidisciplinary and wider team that supports and delivers the urogynaecological service .



Liaise with other health and social care professionals to ensure co-coordinated, on-going care, e.g. GP's, district nurse team, outpatient and ward staff. This would include formulating specilaised plans of care and co-ordinate onward referrals as appropriate .



Act as a point of contact within the Trust for urogynaecology within Women's Health and provided highly specialist information and support.



Maintain accurate records of all referred patients, ensuring relevant information and outcomes are documented in the patient's notes in accordance with the Trust policy and professional standards.
