Job overview



The Vascular Access Specialist Practitioner (Band 6) will work within the Theatres and Critical Care directorate working alongside the Vascular Access Specialist Practitioners (Band 7) and Vascular Access Consultants to ensure that best practice is adhered to in regards to vascular access. In collaboration with the Infection, Prevention and Control Team and other members of the multidisciplinary team, the post will ensure continued involvement with vascular access and education programmes for all grades of staff in order to achieve compliance and best practice. This is a cross site role.


Main duties of the job



You will be involved with training and support to all staff in all aspects of IV therapy including venepuncture, cannulation, blood cultures and central venous access devices. The practitioner will also be expected to provide advice, supervision and undertake the insertion of a variety of vascular access devices including ultrasound guided peripheral intravenous cannulae (PIVC), Midlines and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) for patients who require mid or long-term therapy or who have difficult venous access requirements. Training will be provided.


To work within the team as a specialist practitioner joining in the delivery of vascular access education programmes and participating in the management of a case mix of patients who require assessment and insertion of vascular access devices. To work within the scope of the Critical Care directorate.
