We are seeking an experienced Vehicle and Plant Manager to oversee the maintenance, procurement, and operational efficiency of our vehicle and plant fleet. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe, cost-effective, and compliant operation of all company vehicles and heavy machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing maintenance schedules, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimising fleet performance to support the company's operational goals.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the procurement, operation, maintenance, and disposal of company vehicles and plant equipment.
Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to maximise efficiency and lifespan.
Ensure vehicles and plant equipment are serviced and repaired in a timely and cost-effective manner and in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
Monitor fuel usage, vehicle tracking, and overall fleet performance to improve efficiency.
Ensure all company vehicles and plant equipment comply with relevant safety regulations, legal requirements, and industry standards.
Develop and manage budgets for fleet operations and maintenance.
Identify cost-saving opportunities while ensuring the highest level of service and operational efficiency.
Maintain up-to-date records of inspections, licenses, and certifications.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure proper health & safety practices are implemented for drivers and operators.
Implement policies and procedures to enhance vehicle efficiency and equipment safety.
Provide training on vehicle and equipment handling, maintenance best practices, and safety protocols.
Conduct performance reviews, provide staff training and mentoring for continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate records of fleet usage, expenses, and maintenance schedules.
Provide regular reports on fleet performance, fuel consumption, and cost analysis to senior management.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
Proven experience in fleet or plant management within construction, logistics, or a related industry.
Strong knowledge of vehicle and plant maintenance, repairs, and compliance regulations.
Ability to manage budgets and negotiate contracts.
Experience in leading teams and training staff.
Proficiency in fleet management software and data analysis tools.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
Valid HGV Drivers license and other necessary certifications.
Desired Knowledge & Skills:
Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Fleet Management, Logistics, or a related field.
Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, IMI).
