Job Summary
This exciting, part-time post at Aspace2 Day Opportunities offers a
qualified Visual Artist
the responsibility for planning, coordinating, and delivering inspiring art and upcycling activities for trainees with learning, physical, or sensory disabilities.
The Visual Artist (Team Lead) will be instrumental in fostering a creative, inclusive, and supportive environment where trainees can explore age-appropriate artistic expression, develop their skills, and build confidence through engaging, hands-on projects. A
strong background in mixed media
is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Development:
Design and implement a structured programme of art and upcycling activities that are tailored to the needs, abilities, and interests of the trainees.
Facilitation & Instruction:
Lead dynamic art sessions, demonstrating techniques in painting, drawing,
mixed media
, sculpture, and upcycling materials.
Art Production:
Create
"retail ready" art pieces
for our in-house shop.
Support & Inclusion:
Ensure all trainees receive the appropriate level of guidance, support, and encouragement to participate fully in creative activities.
Material Management:
Source and maintain materials, focusing on cost-effective and sustainable use of resources, including repurposed and upcycled items.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other staff, volunteers, and external artists to develop new projects and opportunities.
Health & Safety:
Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations, safeguarding policies, and individual care plans.
Evaluation & Reporting:
Monitor trainee engagement and progress, maintaining accurate records and providing reports to management as required.
Community Engagement & Exhibitions:
Organise exhibitions, showcases, or public-facing projects to celebrate trainees' achievements. Prepare and organise exhibitions as required.
Social Media:
Manage our arts-related social media page.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualification
in Fine Art, Design, Community Arts, or a related field
OR
significant experience in leading creative workshops.
Demonstrable
strong experience in mixed media
techniques, alongside painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate trainees.
Knowledge of upcycling techniques and sustainable art practices.
Ability to work flexibly and adapt sessions to meet diverse needs.
Understanding of safeguarding and health & safety practices.
Enthusiastic and passionate about arts in social care settings.
Desirable Criteria
Previous experience in a similar role within a social enterprise, education, or community care setting.
Experience in organising exhibitions or community art projects.
Experience working with individuals/groups with learning, physical, or sensory disabilities in an educational or community setting.
